We do this by building automated solutions to handle things that technology does well, while relying on people to handle things that humans do well. AFT Outbound Packing is a subgroup within AFT that builds and maintains core software and services in Amazon Fulfillment Centers. This is the software used worldwide to manage the packing operation of items to be shipped to customers. If youve ever bought something from Amazon, theres a very good chance our software was directly involved in getting it to you. Automation is happening, and with it comes complexity. We need a Software Development Engineer to help us expand a core Resiliency team at the very heart of Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT). We are committed to building a powerful solution using AWS technologies to seamlessly enable services to be resistant to regional outages within AFT and beyond. Most of AFTs internal services are setup using regional architecture where only one pod/cell serves traffic for that region. The services also make use of only one AWS region for that cell. The program drives initiatives to break such dependencies which act as single point of failures and enables entire fulfillment services to be resilient to a single AWS region failures or a critical service outages.As a member of this team, you will get the opportunity to own and deliver highly visible, innovative projects that directly impact the customer experience. You will be involved in driving the technical and architectural vision for a platform that models automation in how Amazon fulfills its orders, as well as all the aspects of the software development cycle including scoping, design, implementation, testing & delivery of our product. This position has great opportunity for growth as Amazon increasingly automates its fulfillment center operations.,
• 1+ years of experience in software development
• Programming experience with at least one software programming language.
• Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science or Engineering.
• Sound data structure and algorithm knowledge.
• Strong, object-oriented design and coding skills (C/C++ and/or Java preferably on a UNIX or Linux platform) and build large scale robust distributed systems.
• Knowledge of Perl or other scripting languages a plus.
• Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational databases.
• Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project.
• Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
• Deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly.
• Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
