Job Description

Key Responsibilities The Programme Officer will perform a wide range of duties including some or all of the following:Programme planning and implementationDevelop, pitch and implement projects on the above mentioned functional areas to achieve the successful outcome of the programme.Ensure that programme activities operate within the policies and procedures of the organization, and are delivered on time as per their requirements.Develop forms and records to document programme activitiesProgramme monitoringMonitor the programme activities on a regular basis.Write reports on the programme for management and development partners (including donors).Communicate with funders as outlined in funding agreements.Monitor all budgeted programme expenditures to ensure projects operate within approved budgets.Perform outreach and networking functions as desired/planned.Manage all project funds according to established accounting policies and procedures.Ensure that all financial records for the programme are up to date.Ensure financial reports and supporting documentation for funders are prepared as outlined in funding agreements.Be pro-active and identify opportunities for research, advocacy, outreach and capacity building.Personal characteristicsThe Programme Officer should demonstrate competence in some or all of the following:Build Relationships: Establish and maintain positive working relationships with project partners and colleagues to achieve the goals of the programme and organization.Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques.Creativity/Innovation: Develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.Focus on partner needs: Anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of internal and external clients to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.Foster Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.Make Decisions: Assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.Organize: Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities.Solve Problems: Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem.Cultural Understanding: Be aware and responsive to cultural requirements in the programme country / of the partner.Working ConditionsProgramme Officers usually work in an office environment but the mission of the project and organization will require travel within and outside India especially to Southern Africa.Programme Officers work a standard work week (2nd and 4th Saturdays are off) but may be required to work some evenings and weekends to monitor programme activities.Qualifications and proficiency Postgraduate degree/diploma in Development, Law, Economics or MBA from an institute of good repute in a related subject.Proficiency in the use of computers for Word processing, Spreadsheet, Simple accounting, Databases.Experience and willingness to travel nationally and internationally.Knowledge of French is not essential, but will be considered as an added advantage.,
