Job Description

    An energy trader is a professional who trades energy commodities such as natural gas, crude oil, and energy company equities. They execute trades, manage risk, and analyze market trends to optimize profits. Unique tasks include coordinating with risk managers on trading credit, developing proprietary risk management systems, and optimizing generation assets in specific regions like CAISO and WECC.Energy traders play a crucial role in the energy industry. They develop strategies such as price discovery, scalping, and technical analysis, and complete extensive training in market analysis and trade execution. According to a resume snippet, an energy trader traded options and swaps in natural gas, crude oil, and energy company equities. They also make markets electronically in CME commodity option markets and coordinate with risk managers and other trading desks on trading credit availability with ISO markets. In addition, they handle day-to-day activities such as PNL, risk control, and accounting issues.Here are examples of responsibilities from real energy trader resumes:
