Job Description

Analyst - Max Institute of Healthcare Management (MIHM)

  • evaluating the impact of various operational decisions in the design and management of health systems on population- level health outcomes,
  • economic evaluation and costing of innovative health interventions,
  • role of incentives in healthcare delivery,
  • application of behavioral economics to promote wellness and healthy behavior,
  • innovation, and scalability of social ventures in healthcare,
  • use of technology in creating new models of healthcare delivery.
Responsibilities Project Brief Non- communicable diseases (NCDs) account for majority of all deaths in India. The care for NCDs in India is predominantly born out- of- pocket with some financial protection from hospitalization through government insurance schemes. For these reasons, individuals underutilize services for NCD care and management, leading to an escalation of disease, emergency health incidents, and increased spending on hospitalizations. Without robust preventive and primary care, the rising burden of NCDs may render many of the tertiary care schemes financially unsustainable. As most patients access outpatient care from private healthcare providers, it seems intuitive that public- private engagement models under which the health services are financed by the public sector and provided by the private sector- - can effectively address the rising NCD burden. Project objectives The analyst will be responsible for: Technical Non- technical Regular communication with field staff, research teams, PI and co- PI s.
  • To identify the existing public- private engagement models in India for diabetes (and other major NCDs) prevention and management.
  • To assess the cost involved in implementing a diabetes prevention and management program at a community level via public- private engagement.
  • To identify the prospective payer(s) for implementing such models at scale.
  • Conduct cost- effective analysis and mathematical modelling on primary/ secondary data in context with healthcare.
  • Conduct intensive review of peer- reviewed articles, white papers, opinion pieces, conference presentation.
  • Conduct in- depth interviews with the government officials, program managers, and beneficiaries.
  • Manage data, summarize findings, and create progress and financial reports.
  • Write peer- reviewed journal articles based on findings from completed projects.
  • Write non- academic white papers, unpublished technical reports, management briefs, opinion and editorial pieces for practitioners and policy makers.
  • Executing research projects in a timely and satisfactory manner.
  • Conducting training, oversight of data collection (and ensuring scientific and logistical integrity).
  • Travel (25%) to 3- 4 locations across India.
Skills and Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Essential Desired
  • Postgraduate qualification (PhD/PharmD/MSc/MPH) in, health economics, medical statistics, epidemiology, applied mathematics, operations research, decision sciences, or related subjects.
  • Strong computing skills: Ability to code in STATA, R, SAS, or Python
  • Experience in conducting health services / implementation research.
  • Written and spoken communication skills, especially in relaying technical information.
  • 3- 5 years of experience in designing mathematical modelling, cost- effectiveness models, Markov- models, econometrics, or simulation models in health economics/outcomes research.
  • Research skills with specific focus on the sourcing of data inputs for economic models.
  • Be capable of taking a lead with publications/scientific communications.
  • Be capable of independent work and taking a lead in complex scientific projects.
  • Strong time management skills and can effectively work on 2- 3 projects at a time.
  • Fluent English will be an asset Highly Desirable.
