Job Description

    Boiler operatorsperform a range of tasks involved in day-to-day operation and maintenance of boilers. They ensure appropriate fuel delivery to keep the boiler working. Operators devote significant time to monitoring meters and gauges to maintain fuel, chemical and water levels, adjusting the levels as necessaryDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOperates and adjusts high pressure gas, oil, and coal fired boilers in the steam generating plant.Maintains maximum boiler efficiency by adjusting, reading, and interpreting gauges, indicators, and steam flow meters.Maintains oil heaters, pumps, oil storage facilities, and oil unloading equipment.Operates steam plant as situation warrants on natural gas, oil, or coal.Observes boiler plant operations through use of electronic or pneumatic controls, pressure gauges, and safety devices.Supervises or performs the chemical testing and treatment of boiler feed water.Maintains various records and reports relative to steam plant operations.Exercises supervision over employees allocated to the class of Boiler Operator I.Makes regular checks of plant equipment and makes adjustments, repairs, and services equipment as required.
