Job Description

The position is responsible for working very closely with Vice President, South Asia; and Vice President Public Affairs India and Greater China to develop a comprehensive government relations and corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy to provide the greatest support to government, industry and community, positively position MI as a leader in government relations outreach and CSR activities, while generating maximum business value and enhancing corporate reputation. This position would also be responsible for creating awareness of our efforts to key government stakeholders at state and federal levels, both directly and via strategic deployment of key MI executives. This person must be knowledgeable of needs within Indian government and community, be able to effectively develop and manage internal and external relationships, and identify and seize leveraging opportunities. This person should evaluate current government and CSR efforts, organize new, creative and efficient elements or devise completely new activities that better serve the public / community / government relations and MI. The position requires high standards of integrity and business ethics.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and implement long-term government relations strategy aligned with the business and operational needs of MI.
  • Based on industry and operational issues, identify and profile key government stakeholders at all levels of Indian government.
  • Evaluate and analyze government stakeholder perceptions of relevance to MI and develop key messages to communicate and influence.
  • Identify key channels for engagement and advocacy, including but not limited to direct engagement, third party engagement (key opinion leaders, industry associations, etc.), foreign diplomatic missions and business chambers, media (in conjunction with the communications team) and public-private partnership initiatives (leveraging CSR activities and community relations).
  • Create and implement long-term CSR strategy aligned with the MI corporate culture and the need to build corporate image in the market.
  • Coordinate engagement by MI executives using identified channels and messaging, acting as a quarterback for overall MI engagement with government and community.
  • Create infrastructure for tracking all regulatory issues and evolving regulations including but not limited to issues, backgrounds, engagement, contact data-base.
  • Provide predictive and analytical counsel on key issues and intelligence influencing public policy, and MI development and operations. Remain available to provide regular briefings and trainings.
  • Use internal communication to reinforce the company s social responsibility policies.
  • Reach out to the public via communications and marketing to deliver the message of the company s commitment to social responsibility. Work on company branding strategies with the marketing department
  • Participate as a key member of crisis management and lead in government and community engagement.
  • Participate as an active member of the business community in activities and initiatives which benefit the positions overall mandate, including participation and leadership of business chambers, industry associations.
QUALIFICATION
  • BA/BS International Relations, Public Affairs, Public Policy, Law, Journalism
  • 10+ years related experience
  • Leadership, management and partnering experience
  • Demonstrated experience in strategy development, implementation and evaluation
  • Professional experience in government relations, regulatory affairs and/or public affairs for multinational company, NGO or government in India
  • Detailed knowledge of Indian government structure, functions and legislative processes at federal, state and local levels
  • Understanding of issues affecting multinational businesses in India; understanding of issues and expectations of community in India
  • Proven strong, creative problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Strong presentation, writing and communication skills
  • Ability to generate significant accomplishments with minimal supervision
  • Strong ability to partner, develop and maintain positive, professional working relationships both internally and externally
  • Positive outgoing attitude, and ability to work in a multicultural and multilingual environment
  • Ability to demonstrate business savvy to link government functions to overall company objectives
  • Proven ability to develop and implement successful project outcomes
