What is the Opportunity We are seeking a talented and passionate, senior individual to join Standard Chartered as the Head of Engineering. In this role you will help drive and oversee the engineering and the engineering strategy for Technology & Innovation . This role will also play a critical part in helping shape and guide the future growth and development for Technology Strategy & Architecture and will be responsible for the creation and transformation of the capabilities that will define how we organise to deliver on the strategy. This includes owning both the end-to-end engineering organisational operating model and the technology that underpins the products and services delivers. What will you do Transformation, Technology & Operations (TTO) is a global organisation providing Cloud, Data, End User, Infrastructure, Integration, IT Service Management, Network and Security capabilities to all our clients and colleagues globally with an operating budget of $500mil USD and $200mil USD of change. To be successful, this person will need to: Strategy
    • Have overall responsibility for engineering activities across the business.
    • Own and drive a best practice engineering practice to enable business performance
    • Ensure adequate engineering practices are implemented to deliver to the highest standard
    • Anticipate and evaluate business challenges and take action to mitigate
    • Develop opportunities for innovation and out of the box thinking
    • Contribute to corporate plans and budget forecasting
    • Own the engineering processes and policies and associated risk controls
    Business
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • Work with leadership teams to decide engineering investments and priorities against target and budgets with the resources available
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to de-risk portfolio change and find economies of scale
    • Champion impact of technology on market and potential implications for the organisation
    • Introduce new solutions and new practices to ensure the organisation capitalises on industry learning and growth
    • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects
    • Succinctly communicate the impact of engineering activities
    • Appraise and interpret complex requirements to understand the impact of the organisations ability to deliver change
    Processes
    • Own the end-to-end delivery practice and its associated list of processes
    • Responsible for delivery processes
    • Own and be responsible for the risk management of change
    • Drive the optimisation of delivery by reviewing and optimising data pertaining to the effectiveness of change
    People and Talent
    • Coach, mentor and develop direct reports and manage a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and cost reductions
    • Set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance
    • Drive for continual growth and development of engineers at the bank
    • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with organisational policies and regulatory expectations
    • Be responsible for developing the appropriate organisational structure
    • Own resource plans and nurture the culture to support the business objectives and customer deliverables
    • Provide coaching and training to the team to succeed in delivering the required business, risk and financial metrics
    • Complete regular performance reviews, manage attendance, holidays, disciplinary issues and procedures as appropriate
    • Work with the Engineering teams to translate strategy into specific annual performance goals and departmental objectives including KPIs and OKR s
    Risk Management
    • Own the risks linked to the delivery of code into production
    • Own the risks linked to the maintenance of code in production
    • Own the end-to-end risks associated with the dev/test environments and the requisite tooling
    • Drive for the closure of risks, operational events and audit findings on time, once and done
    • Educate the team on risk management and continual mitigating of risk
    • Comply with organisation risk management framework
    • Find automated solutions to reduce risk and prevent human and manual solutions
    Regulatory & Business Conduct

    • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank.
