Job Description

IntroductionAs a Data Scientist at IBM, you will help transform our clients data into tangible business value by analyzing information, communicating outcomes and collaborating on product development. Work with Best in Class open source and visual tools, along with the most flexible and scalable deployment options. Whether it s investigating patient trends or weather patterns, you will work to solve real world problems for the industries transforming how we live.Your Role and Responsibilities We are in a data science renaissance.Companies that embrace data science will lead and those who do not will fall behind. To help IBMs clients lead, we are expanding an elite team of data science practitioners to help them learn how to succeed with data science. The team will include data engineers, machine learning engineers, operations research / optimisation engineers and data journalists. The team will engage directly in solving real-world business challenges through the use of data science, in a wide array of industries around the globe with IBM clients. The elite team of data scientist will work with other IBMers and client data science teams to solve business challenges in banking, insurance, health care, manufacturing, oil & gas and automotive industries, to name a few. We will teach data scientists and sometimes people who desire to be data scientists to:

  1. Identify a business use case and formulate into a data science use case
  2. Break that use case down into discrete MVPs (minimal viable product) and define suitable data science approaches to tackle them
  3. Define measure of success for each MVP
  4. Work in code notebooks, design/build/train pipelines and models
  5. Test, validate and select models
  6. Deploy models via APIs into applications or workflows and monitor models for drift/biasness
  7. Use code repositories to version and share code/notebooks to enable collaboration among team members
  8. Construct user story and visualise output in a way that is consumable by business audience
  9. Guide and mentor clients to become self-sufficient data science practitioners
  10. Communicate effectively with business and technical audience throughout span of engagement
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • At least 6 years experience in a data scientist role, with familiarity in various machine learning and deep learning models
  • At least 6 years programming experience in Python
  • At least 2 years programming experience in either R or Scala
  • At least 4 years experience in client facing
  • At least 2 years experience in team leading
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Expert in applying machine learning (supervised, unsupervised and semi-supervised) and deep learning techniques
  • Expert in machine learning pipelines data ingestion, feature engineering, modelling (ensemble methods, predicting, explaining, deploying and diagnosing over/under-fitting)
  • Expert in sampling and model selection
  • Familiar with deployment and consumption of models via APIs
  • Familiar with one or more of decision optimisation, simulation or data visualisation
  • Familiar with Big Data technologies
  • Excellent communication, client management and problem-solving skills
