PCB / Electronic EngineerSUMMARY DESCRIPTIONDesign Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) for radio frequency (RF) and mixed signal circuits.The candidate should have considerable experience in designing PCBs using Pads / Eagle / kicadDesigner or similar PCB CAD software. This should include schematic capture, layout and CAMprocessing. It is also necessary to have a good understanding of the particular requirements for layingout RF circuits.Experience in the design of PCBs for switch-mode power supplies, surge protection circuits andmicrocontroller circuits would be an advantageAdditional responsibilities include the development and maintenance of PCB CAD component librariesand the maintenance of electronics components within the companys PLM system.A secondary aspect of the role is to develop prototype electronic circuits in a laboratory environment. Forthis, some experience in electronic design would be beneficial. Also, some experience in electronic circuitdesign and associated instrumentation is desirable, as well as the ability to collate test data and writeclear and concise reports.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESCreate and maintain schematic designs using PCB CAD software (Pads,Eagle,kicad and PADS).Design RF and mixed signal PCB layouts both from own schematics and from schematicsgenerated by other design engineers.Create and maintain PCB component libraries within the PCB CAD and PLM systems.Collaborate with mechanical designers to ensure integrity of mechanical and thermal designaspects.Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to achieve project goals and objectives.Undertake multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, managing own time to deliver according toproject milestones.Liaise with PCB manufacturers to clarify design requirements and resolve problems encounteredmanufacturing bare boards.Liaise with contract electronics manufacturers to clarify design requirements and resolve problemsencountered manufacturing PCB assemblies (populated PCBs).All other duties as assigned.SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESVerify electronic designs by carrying out tests using laboratory instruments, includingoscilloscopes, network analysers, spectrum analysers, signal generators and other instruments.Develop electronic circuits in a laboratory environment. This includes adapting existing circuits fornew purposes, finding and verifying alternate components and optimizing component values in newdesigns.Write clear and concise test and design verification reports based on laboratory measurements.Assist the production department in troubleshooting and training for new electronic circuits in theearly production phase.ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS Education and Experienceo Bachelors degree or HND in Electrical Engineering or related field.o 1 to 3 years full time PCB schematic and layout design experience, preferably withradio frequency circuits.o Proficient with EDA software, preferably Pads,Eagle,kicad Language Skillso Ability to read, analyse and interpret common scientific and technical data.o Ability to write clear and concise technical reports.o Ability to effectively present information to colleagues and vendors Mathematical Skillso Good mathematical skills, including an understanding of exponents and logarithms.o Understanding of statistical concepts and their application to component toleranceanalysis. Other Skills and Abilities:o Solid working knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office, particularly Excel and Word.o Design, develop and verify electronic circuits including RF, PSU and microcontroller.o Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.o Ability to interpret mechanical design.o Ability to read and comprehend electrical schematics for lumped and distributeddevices.o Ability to multi-task, manage own time and work in a fast paced environment.o Willing to travel occasionally, domestically or internationally.o Excellent interpersonal, communications and negotiation skills.
