Job Description

The VMware Engineer role focuses on virtualization products and infrastructure primarily from VMware. The Virtualization Engineer will provide direction and execution of design, architecture, implementation, integration, and process that will define the capabilities and understanding of what virtualized infrastructure can accomplish.Responsibilities:

  • Overall design, implementation, and management of virtual infrastructure. To include capacity, performance, availability, automated provisioning, and event management
  • Work closely with various technology teams and provide technical expertise to guide them on integrating with VMware products
  • Engage with various technology teams as needed to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Research and evaluate technology for appropriateness. Oversee and implement upgrade strategies.
  • Hold technical and business related discussions from various parts of the business. Use information gathered to develop and maintain an environment that address needs of the business using infrastructure solutions.
Qualifications:
  • 2+ Years experience with hardware clustering and virtualization utilizing VMWare and/or Hyper-V
  • 2 years of experience designing, implementing and maintaining VMware network device drivers (VLANs, hardware offloads, RoCE, performance issues, customer impact issues).
  • Significant enterprise-scale experience with the VMware vSphere or vCloud Suites.
  • Experience working with VMware for upstreaming patches and features.
  • Strong knowledge of broader infrastructure components (e.g. TCP/IP, Active Directory, DNS etc.)
  • Solid understanding of virtual and physical network, storage and security concepts and practices.
  • Scripting skills (e.g. Powershell, PowerCLI, etc).
  • Prior Experience with application or infrastructure development projects
  • Strong skills with Window Server platforms required.
  • Experience driving SDDC (Software Defined Data Center) with SDN (Software Defined Networking) adoption, including but not limited to NSX and/or Cisco ACI.
  • Experience with vRealize Operations Manager (vROPs) is strongly preferred.
  • VMware SRM and BCDR (business continuity disaster recovery) skills are preferred.
  • Experience with VMware Horizon View, Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop a plus.
  • Experience with vRealize Automation (formally vCAC) and Orchestrator a plus
  • Ability to troubleshoot methodologies and solve issues to meet deadlines
  • Ability to plan and implement projects with timelines and schedules
  • Expert knowledge of server and network hardware, software, and industry best practices for security.
