Job Description

Principal Accountabilities and Activities: The DBA assumes the responsibility for the support and maintenance of all corporate databases. This includes the Design and implementation of High Availability systems including backup and recovery, leading performance tuning activities to maintain high service levels and system performance, capacity planning and management reporting about the health of the database environments. Work closely with all functional groups to assure a smooth implementation and to insure compliance with all corporate adopted system standards and directions. Provide technical support to application development teams and Database Architecture as part of database development projects. Responsible for ensuring databases meet security best practices and compliance. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as an effective team member. Complete platform upgrades, migrations, patching, performance monitoring and coordination of changes to company databases. Responsible for providing day-to-day activities, including, but not limited to; backup, restore, performance tuning, security management, capacity planning, standards development and enforcement. Enforcing the change control policies and managing the deployment of changes to the database systems. Responsible for investigating potential problems and issues raised by business users; this will include work outside normal office hours. Monitor database events and proactively optimise system performance. Work with the team to automate reactive procedures where possible, and to promote rapid response to known issues. Work in conjunction with other Technology, and business groups to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and integration requirements from the database perspective. Develop and maintain an in depth understanding of the database architecture and the general application functionality used to maintain data integrity. Provide a high level of customer satisfaction through the effective delivery of technical support and service. Competencies and Technical Skills: Educated to minimum degree level or equivalent in Computer Science or IT-related field Strong communication skills, English speaking written skills are essential. There is an aspect of the role that will include working outside of standard working hours, including being able to cover evening and weekend duties This is a fast paced and varied role which means the ideal candidate will be extremely organised yet very flexible, with strong time management skills Ability to work in a highly energetic global environment showing ability to quickly overcome technical challenges and respond appropriately. Keeps abreast of industry trends and able to bring industry standards and best practices, lessons learned to the project. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Good team player, gets on well with others and able to work with people of different skill levels. An understanding of quality and process improvement. Good organization skills to keep track of issues requests and ensure proper follow-up and closure Solid understanding of development using SCRUM and Agile practices. 5 or more years commercial experience as a database administrator, across both Production and Development disciplines, supporting highly available environments. Developing, enhancing, deploying and maintaining RDBMS, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS using SQL Server 2008 above. Broad understanding of IT disciplines including but not limited to applications, software development life cycle, security and infrastructure. Updating and amending existing databases Setting up and testing new database and data handling systems. Monitoring database efficiency Sustaining the security (including but not limited to encryption, user permission and role setup) and integrity of data. Creating complex query definitions that allow data to be extracted. Experience in resolving Db locks performance issues. High availability SQL Server administration Running SQL in a virtual environment Replication setup and maintenance Database design and normalisation Index creation, tuning and maintenance T-SQL (Stored Procedures, views, functions, triggers) Data Warehouse Design (Star Schema) and Implementation Virtualisation Database management and monitoring tools Must have a flexible attitude and be able to multi-task A pro-active and logical approach with a high degree of personal responsibility Must be able to manage own time and meet project deadlines Enthusiastic, self-starter with a passion to deliver working solutions to business needs.
