Job Description

*Working for Business Intelligence requires a good understanding of the business context and the business require ments. Focus of the role is testing of BI Application which is the data provisi oning layer and direct interface to our BI customers. Major focus is tomake su re the quality of backend development for this layer, which means, responsible for the development of required data structures, data marts, their provisioning with data and their transfer into regularBusiness Intelligence testing initiatives help companies gain deeper and better insights so they can manage or make decisions based on hard facts or da ta.Simple, a BI testing project is a testing project too. That m eans the typical stages of testingare applicable here too, whether it is the p erformance you are testing or functional end to end testing:&nbs p;

  • Test planning
  • Test strategy
  • Testdesign (Your Test cases will be query intensive rather than plain text based. This is the ONE major difference between your ty pical test projectsto an ETL/Data Warehouse/Reporting/BI testing project.)
  • Test execution (Once again, you are going to need some q uerying interface such as Teradata SQl Assiatant, to run your queries)
  • Defect reporting, closure etc.
BI Testing Strategy: The goal of testing BI applications is to achieve credible data. And data credibility can be attained by making the testi ng cycle effective.A comprehensive test strategy is the stepping stone of an effective test cycle.& The strategy should cover test planning for each stage, every time the data moves and state the responsibilities of each stakeholder e.g. business analysts, infrastructure team, QA team, DBA s, Developers and Business U sers. To ensure testing readiness from all aspects the key areas the stra tegy should focus on are:
  • Scope of test ing: Describe testing techniques and types to be used.
  • Test environment set up.
  • Test Dat a Availability: It is recommended to have production like data covering all/cri tical business scenarios.
  • Data quality and performance acceptance criteria.
Primary Skills (not more than 2):Manual Testing, Excel, Data AnalysisAlternate Skills (if applicable) : Teradata SQL , VBA-Macros
    • Verify transformations of data are appli ed correctly at data mart level or not.
    • Check if the target and source data base are connected well and there are no access issu es.
    • While loading the data, check for the perform ance of the session
    • Verify you can fail the calli ng parent task if the child task fails.
    • Verify th at the logs are updated
Verify mapping and workfl ow parameters are configured accurately
  • Verify da ta completeness
  • Make sure data transformation are correct as per applied business logic.
  • Make sure no Data lossduring data integration process and handshaking between sources.
  • Keen to un derstandthe data.
