Job Description

  • The Engineering Manager will work with the internal Seagate team, its customers, and the Network Storage industry to develop a resilient, high performing storage platform. The position requires system development project management experience and ideally experience with RAS (Reliability Availability Serviceability) and Storage Management.
  • The Manager will lead a local team of software developers and will facilitate effective collaboration with the global team of development professionals.
  • The Manager is an effective coach of engineering talent, a creative problem-solver, and an exceptional communicator and collaborator.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Understanding of the basic UNIX and experience in UNIX environment.
  • Knowledge of software development life-cycle and experience bringing commercial products to market.
  • Knowledge of Storage and Systems Management and Monitoring concepts, Graphical User Interfaces and Command Line Interfaces, failure handling and related Technologies.
  • Knowledge of RabbitMQ (specifically the publisher/subscriber model and resilient queues)
  • Knowledge of the RedHat Package Manager (SPEC files, yum, repositories)
  • Knowledge of Jenkins, Gerrit and Git
  • Knowledge of RedHat based Linux distributions (Primarily the CentOS 7.x release stream, systemd, selinux etc)
  • Knowledge of Linux Operating System services and tools, such as systemd, dbus, sg_utils, etc.
  • Knowledge of JSON, RESTful interfaces, JavaScript
  • Knowledge of storage system architectures, storage media types, communication protocols, system characteristics such as capacity, throughput and latency values, failure modes.
  • Knowledge of modern server architectures: processors, caches, cores, NUMA, concurrency control mechanisms.
  • Established record of completing projects on-time and to specification
  • Experience to develop software roadmaps in collaboration with software architects and produce software development schedules and release plans to realize the product goals
  • Experience leading Agile Scrum teams is required
  • Ability to communicate complex technical material with groups outside of engineering, including QA, Product Management, and any support functions
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks, manage conflicting deadlines, and work effectively in a dynamic environment
  • Experience working with distributed teams over a range of geographies and time zones
  • Excellent English language skills both written and verbal
  • Experience with industry software development processes and practices.
  • Knowledge of Python programming language
