Security Developer

Job Description

• The purpose of the role is to provide high quality software development and engineering for the Security Engineering and Technology Services organisation within Barclays Chief Security Office
• The developed software will improve Barclays security posture across a range of security domains and attention to detail and a strive towards high quality solutions is a must
• Bespoke development of solutions makes up a large part of this role and also sits alongside the integration of other systems and respective software development to achieve this
• The ability and flexibility to tackle new technologies and platforms as requirements dictate a true technologist would be suitable for the role

What will you be doing

• The role requires the candidate to take individual responsibility for the delivery of high quality backend software

• Development of web and data processing/mover systems
• Understand and handle evolving requirements for Software Development
• Strong ethos for API driven systems with clear documentation and innovative approaches
• Keen to adapt to and learn new technologies as they are introduced
• Working with data repository solutions such as NoSQL, RDBMS (SQL), Elastic
• DevOps mindset to development considering what happens after a commit
• Secure by design solutions considering Authentication, Authorisation, SSO etc.
• Foundational UI development to achieve realisation/improvement on visibility of backend systems
• Ability to document and design using Draw.io, UML and other modelling tools.

• Excellent/Very Strong Java (8/11)/Python (3) software development skills with a strong focus on OOP and SOLID principles particularly within the bounds of web applications and REST API development.
• Ability to build frontend systems integrating with backend API s and experience in managing the interface between these technologies; i.e. HTML5, ReactJS, CSS3 and an appreciation of SPA
• Strong knowledge of the Spring Framework including SpringBoot and SpringCloud for Java. Knowledge of tools such as Django/SQLAlchemy/Flask for Python. Test Driven Development Experience using these tools.
• Strong platform experience in writing code for deployment to systems including Tomcat, Containers (i.e. EKS, Docker, Openshift etc), Linux, Serverless and an appreciation for Infrastructure as Code i.e. Chef/Ansible etc.

Skills that will help you in the Role:

• Experience of Public Cloud systems including deployment and development in building suitable systems for cloud. Public Cloud Certification i.e. at Developer/Solutions Architecture level
• Demonstrable experience of building solutions with Observabiltiy (i.e. telemetry, monitoring, eventing, tracing) and DevOps (CI/CD tools, metrics, platform independence, documentation, SRE, Jira)
• Strong understanding of external systems integration i.e. Operating System interaction, demonstrable RDBMS experience, NoSQL knowledge, Storage/IO interaction, batch/job scheduling, API Gateways
• Understanding/working experience of cryptography/security from a development experience i.e. HTTPS/TLS, Key Management Systems, HSM s, Security Providers, SSO, RBAC
• Self-motivated and organised individual with a determination and passion for delivery and performance
• A motivation and aptitude for technology with a high level of attention to detail
• High degree of (hands-on) development experience with a polyglot programming language approach
• Excellent ability to execute where information is ambiguous, utilising professionalism, experience and prior knowledge
• A degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or related field in required
• Enthusiastic and proactive team player who is keen to contribute to ideas and listen in a collaborative manner.
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Eager to learn and keeps up to date with the following concepts: DevOps, Cloud based systems, Testing automation, Agile Scrum, TDD
