Job Description

  • Zappos Digital customer experience team is looking for a Lead QA Engineer to oversee testing of new and exciting next-gen experiences for our customers that differentiate us in the e-commerce space. The candidate must be a pragmatic problem solver, applying judgment and experience to balance quality and strategy trade- offs. Identify and tackle intrinsically hard problems.

  • 7+ years of experience
  • BS/BA degree in a technical field Leadership Make strong, impactful changes to the processes in the team, driving major improvement or fundamental advancement in team procedures; work with multiple teams in and/or across organizations; Lead in identifying and solving ambiguous software quality problems, architecture deficiencies that impact system testability, and/or improve engineer efficiency; A champion and independent driver of operational efficiency for the team, leading tangible efforts for improvement with measurable success; Manage large test efforts, driving test strategy and deliverables for a large and/or complex systems.
  • Strategy Influence test strategy by making insightful contributions to team priorities and approach. Lead and actively participate in test planning and tools reviews, aligning teams across your organization towards coherent strategies and best practices. You bring clarity to complexity, probe assumptions, illuminate pitfalls, and foster shared understanding; Keep abreast of industry trends and effectively research and benchmark our technology against other competing software in the industry.
  • Decision making Make appropriate trade-off decisions between automation and manual test execution to maximize efficiency and coverage.
  • Quality focused Demonstrate quality influence over multiple teams, either via a collaborative testing effort or by increasing their productivity and effectiveness by implementing engineering best practices (e.g., Static Analysis, Continuous Integration, etc.).
  • Actively participate in the hiring process as well as mentor others - improving their skills, their knowledge of your software, and their ability to get things done.
  • Hands-on ability to automate repeated tasks and build test coverage through existing or new infrastructure (performance testing, regression automation, etc.); Write moderately complex code/scripts to test systems, implementing test harnesses and infrastructure as necessary; Working with cloud architecture, web services, and web sites; Testing mobile and web applications with Java and JavaScript; Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java, C#, JavaScript or Python
  • Online retail experience is a plus
