Job Description

This exciting role offers opportunity to:

  • The primary responsibility of Firmware Specialist will be to lead the technical development of Embedded Firmware for electronic control projects with the support of engineering managers by effectively leveraging Agile best practices. In this role,he/she will functionally report to the ES-Americas Group Head in EIIC and will be responsible for coordinating execution of multiple control projects with functional resources located in US as well as other offshore sites in India.
  • Success in this position requires the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment, strong motivation for pursuing project objectives and the ability to learn new techniques and development processes. We are looking for candidates who are able to see the bigger picture; strength in a system-level viewpoint is a must.This position will be based in EIIC,Pune in ES Americas - PSD team.
  • Lead embedded software application development and high-level design efforts for the embedded system-based products within the Power Systems division
  • Stage work and delegate appropriate aspects of design and implementation to other developers, ensuring compliance with architecture and systems/design requirements.
  • Evaluate system performance requirements and model future requirements to identify and mitigate risks. Collaborate with the hardware team to support development and testing.
  • Design and implement features for power system intelligent electronic devices, including power system protection algorithms, system diagnostics/prognostics, communication protocols, cybersecurity, and other relay, control and monitoring functions using C/C++
  • Create optimized and right-sized solutions that meet or exceed product requirements with appropriate technical tradeoffs for constrained resources and serve as embedded software expert in the area of specification, design, construction, test, test automation and maintenance
  • Lead and guide complex system interface design activities and lead the resolution of integration issues across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Collaborate with product owners, functional managers, systems engineering to distill product/system/design requirements/use cases to firmware designs/stories, size stories, developing module & system level code, and unit tests
  • Demonstrate technical leadership level contributions with Linux and/or RTOS based embedded systems as well as coach and mentor other team members with respect to technology, architecture, design principles, and coding practices.
  • Collaborate with internal CoEs and external resources to select appropriate platforms, tools, problem solve and accelerate new features/products.
  • Identify and leverage new technologies to enhance product features, improve quality/efficiency/collaboration.
  • Participate in DevOps for embedded software delivery by extending Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery pipelines for one or more software release streams per product family
QualificationsRequirement:
  • Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science/Electrical/Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution required.
  • Preferred - Master s Degree in Computer Science/Electrical/Electronics Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 15 to 18 years of design experience of embedded systems software - RTOS, C, C++.
  • 8+ years experience working on real-time embedded systems
  • Industrial Ethernet protocols like EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, Profinet, BACnet IP, 61850
  • Exposure to Linux (Driver, Kernel) , API based frameworks or SDK will be preferable.
  • Demonstrated competency with hardware drivers, embedded applications, networking and related areas primarily using C and C++ as programming languages.
  • Demonstrated competency with embedded software development environment and tools for real-time operating systems (RTOS), FreeRTOS, or Embedded Linux
  • Demonstrated competency using or designing systems that use network protocols such as Serial, TCP/IP, Ethernet
  • Demonstrated competencies creating and implementing virtualized environments for embedded software designs.
  • Experience leading technical resources
  • Strong understanding of Object Oriented Design (OOD) principles using C++, secure coding and cybersecurity best practices
  • Strong understanding of real-time operating system (RTOS) concepts
  • Model designs using UML or similar methodologies as appropriate; develop use cases to model real-time systems behavior
  • Ability to work effectively in an Agile Scrum (or other iterative development) environment
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and a good familiarity with unit test frameworks (e.g. GoogleTest, GoogleMock, xUnit++)
  • Experience with multi-core embedded systems
  • Experience using SDLC management tools in a team environment (e.g. Jira, Git, etc.)
  • Knowledge of power systems, switchgear and regulator controls products/applications is an added advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to operate effectively with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
