Job Description

Mechanical Manufacturing EngineerLocation: Taipei, TaiwanExperience Level: MidAbout the JobGoogles custom-designed equipment makes up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Manufacturing Operations team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Googles powerful search technology. When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, youre right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled. You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Googles infrastructure needs and product specifications. Your work ensures the various pieces of Googles infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.As a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer in the supply chain organization, you will join the team responsible for providing manufacturing support and guidance for Googles electro-mechanical products. You will have an understanding of the tools, processes, and techniques used to manufacture electro-mechanical products. You will be a partner to the Product Development team through your industry knowledge, experience identifying, and qualifying advanced manufacturing techniques and the Design for Excellence (DFX) feedback.   • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in the manufacturing process and product development for mechanical parts and assemblies for electronics products.
  • Experience in one of the following sub-disciplines (i.e., sheet metal fabrication, hard tooling fabrication, stamping, riveting, welding, molding).
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools (i.e., SolidWorks, Pro/E).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with product data management systems (e.g., Agile, Windchill).
  • Understanding of precision sheet metal fabrication processes (e.g., NC punching, press brake forming, hardware insertion processes), hard tooling fabrication processes (e.g., metal stamping), plastic injection molding processes, and electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple geo teams on complex projects, with excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities:
  • Drive concurrent engineering through communicating design, process, tooling and material changes to Google manufacturing partners and design engineering peers.
  • Perform Design for Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/DFA) analysis for sheet metal (soft tool), plastic injection molded, metal stamped (hard tool), and electro-mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Resolve manufacturing and field challenges by applying knowledge and skills, escalating design, manufacturing, and product issues to others within the organization when appropriate. Identify, initiate, and drive process improvements that reduce business process cycle times and cost, while maintaining quality.
  • Provide support for manufacturing and field quality issues, owning resolution of manufacturing/supplier issues and driving design issues cross-functionally.
  • Design, develop, and conduct design reviews for production and testing fixtures.
