Job Description

1. Objectives of the position:As the Engineering Head, person will be responsible for overseeing all engineering activities within the manufacturing facility. He / she will lead a team of engineers and technicians to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes and equipment.

• Lead and manage the engineering department to support production targets, quality standards, and cost efficiency goals.
• Develop and implement engineering strategies, policies, procedures, and best practices to optimize manufacturing processes and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Manage engineering projects from conception through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
• Foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement among the engineering team.
• Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices to drive innovation and maintain competitiveness.
• Ensure the smooth running of plant equipment.
• Ensure the adequate supply of various utilities required for the processes.
• Emulate and ensure the image of the engineering department for quality service always.
• Ensure that no legal notice and penalty is levied for noncompliance of statutory acts as laid by various Government offices for engineering function.
• Lead a team of engineers guide and motivate them and monitor the performance of the department.
• Implement the policies and strategies of BASF as required from time to time.

2. Representative Main tasks:

• Carrying out safety talks, safety inspections, audits, hazard identification & risk assessments & other safety-related topics and monitoring safety & housekeeping in the plant.
• Ensure incident reporting, investigations and the implementation of corrective actions.
• Responsible for entire engineering activities pertaining to maintenance of Plants, Utilities, and infrastructure facilities.
• Responsible for statutory compliance of all equipment of site as per laws of land.
• Responsible for ensuring compliance of works as per BASF EHS/FERA & 5S guidelines and local guidelines.
• Responsible for the preparation of OPEX and CAPEX budget for engineering and utilities total and ensuring expenditure within limits.
• Responsible for compliance of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 guidelines during all time and facing the audits.
• To provide technical advice to plant/project department during any modification or new equipment procurement and assist in troubleshooting of the issues.
• To introduce/implement energy conservation measures on a sustainable basis and monitor the results for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
• To play a key role in crises, important events of Site and liaison with relevant government officials.
• Lead C.A.R.E activities and idea management.
• Optimize own productivity and contractor services.
• Ensure 100 PERCENT compliance to audit/safety inspections procedures findings and implementation of recommendations.

3. Education & Qualification:

• Degree in Mechanical / Electrical engineering.
• Preferred to have diploma in Electrical engineering with supervisory licensing or permit.
• More than 15-20 years of working experience in chemical or petrochemical plant operation with at least 5-8 years of experience as Head Engineering.

5. Size of Impact:

• Leading team of 24 employees (bargainable and management employees) and contractors at site approx. 150 contractors.
• Responsible for operating expenditure budget of engineering for all plant maintenance for labs/administration, maintenance and utilities with infrastructure and warehouses. It is responsible for the capital expenditure budget of each calendar year for propose and execute the same in time.
• This is a service function hence no direct impact on turnover but indirectly the turnover can increase or decrease considerably. The bottom line of the company gets affected significantly due to the performance.

6. Authority:

• To implement safety policy and make engineering services related procedures.
• To issue work permit as per the PTW matrix.
• To deal with statutory body to meet legal compliance as per the requirements.

7. Responsibility:

• Responsible for handling activities related to RC codes 0,3,5,7,10.
• Monitoring and controlling the budget of site engineering services.
• Develop & monitor compliance of procedures & systems.
• To monitor and execute the OPEX and CAPEX budget as per the site requirements.
