Job Description

Job Description SummaryDesktop Publisher (Translation Proofer) Job DescriptionThe Desktop Publisher/Translation Proofer is responsible for electronically creating and revising new and revised technical labelling documentation and proofreading translated IFUs for products marketed by BD LifeSciences. This associate will use Adobe and MadCap Flare software applications to edit English and multilingual content and publish final documents in PDF format. Additional responsibilities include supporting the Labeling, Technical Writing and Translation Specialists. Job DescriptionResponsibilities:

  • Creates, revises and reviews product labeling including labels, package inserts and users manuals to assure compliance/conformity with existing Corporate, Regulatory and Global (ISO, PAL, etc.) guidelines.
  • Works with Labeling Specialists/Technical Writers/Translation Specialists to develop/revise product documentation and determine specifications for: type style, font size, clarity and conformity of wording, formatting and print paper.
  • Incorporates multilingual edits in translated documents.
  • Performs editing/proofreading on a variety of documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Follows style guides and project-provided instructions.
  • Manipulates files into different formats.
  • Produces final print PDFs for print vendor use.
  • Produces web formatted documents for electronic storage on the Life Sciences website.
  • Adheres to departmental graphic standards.
  • Assesses complexity of job and provides time based estimate for completion.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of management, business units (Corporate and International), and possesses a high degree of flexibility/selectivity in prioritizing business units and plant projects to meet established goals.
  • Participates in the activities of professional and trade organizations through attendance at meetings.
Tools:Must Have: Adobe InDesign, Adobe Framemaker, Illustrator, FlareExcellent Communication - verbal and written is a mustQualifications:
  • Bachelor s degree, preferably in Computer Science/Graphics, with a minimum of threeyearsexperience in desktoppublishing (InDesign, Illustrator, FrameMaker, Flare Must Have Tools), or equivalent combination of related education and experience. Labeling/packaging development experience required.
  • Multilingual DTP (InDesign/FrameMaker) experience required. Translation Proofing will be required. Familiarity with non-English languages preferred.
  • Considerable knowledge of typography, fonts, proofreading, document formatting, desktop publishing, page layout and design, publication styles.
  • Ability to independently participate in group projects, develop timelines for projects, communicate effectively and implement projects.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with excellent follow-up skills.
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, MS Excel).
  • Detail-oriented and have the ability to work under deadline pressure; must be able to deal with unresolved situations, frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • HTML experience preferred.
