Senior Software Engineering Manager

Job Description

As a Sr. Software Engineering Manager at HMH, you will lead one or more teams of software engineers across different regions. Your responsibilities will include fostering a productive engineering culture, providing technical leadership, and guiding your teams. You will be accountable for the quality of development efforts, performing code reviews, and promoting engineering best practices. Additionally, you will work closely with Architecture and Product teams to determine the best technical solutions. Partnering with Product Owners, you will define the roadmap and strategy for your area of the business. Your role will also involve guiding engineers in their career development, goal-setting, and performance management, as well as supporting the recruitment processes for your teams.Key Responsibilities:- Lead teams in designing and delivering major software components- Collaborate with Product, Architect, QA, and other teams- Translate strategic vision into action- Build collaborative and motivated teams- Ensure high-quality standards are followed- Manage risks and escalate issues effectively- Promote a creative culture and innovative problem-solving approachesQualifications Required:- 12 years of experience in Software Engineering- 3 to 5 years of people management experience- Experience in Agile environment- Proficiency in test-driven development and automated testing frameworks- Knowledge of backend development in Java/Spring Boot or DevOps tasks- Familiarity with building web services using APIs like REST, SOAP- Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)- Proficient in code versioning tools like Git- Knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS/Azure) and systems like Apache Kafka, Apache SparkAbout HMH:HMH is a learning technology company dedicated to delivering solutions that engage learners, empower educators, and improve student outcomes.
