Job Description

This role supports large numbers of in-life key operational oracle databases and applications for Technology and Group LOBs. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to occasional out-of-hours and weekend working as when required. What youll be doing As part of Operational DBA team, the role holder is responsible for the deployment and support of in-life Oracle databases. This includes software installation, security Oracle patching/upgrading, database creation and subsequent in life maintenance of the database for both internal and external customers. The complex technical support of the production database estate involves problem diagnosis and resolution, managed change implementation, performance investigation and handling escalated technical issues with the software vendor. Participation in an out of hours callout rota may be required for this role as when business decides.Typically computing/engineering degree or equivalent entrant, or and further education technical qualifications. Working towards formal vendor training to professional certification standards, e.g. Oracle Certified DBA Well also need to see these on your CV

  • Qualified DBA with relevant experience working on Oracle Database Administration in a Production support environment covering Oracle 10g, 11g and 12c on Unix/Linux including Development/Test support environment.
  • Demonstrates competence in own area, although will still be acquiring higher level skill and will be working to deepen knowledge/skills in own area, and broaden ability over a variety of skills, e.g. Oracle Certification (Desirable).

  • Can identify unusual technical problems and respond to managers requests in non-standard situations.

  • Can then generate possible solutions, assessing each using standard procedures and making a sound decision.
