Job Description

    Job DescriptionAn engineering supervisor manages a team of engineers and technicians to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. They also provide guidance and mentorship to their team, and collaborate with other departments to ensure that projects run smoothly.Here are some of the responsibilities of an engineering supervisor:
    • Project management: Oversee the planning, design, construction, and management of projects
    • Technical guidance: Provide professional engineering and technical guidance to staff
    • Staff management: Manage staff workload, establish performance requirements, and provide technical standards
    • Compliance: Review designs and plans to ensure compliance with building codes and engineering standards
    • Collaboration: Work with other engineering staff to develop policies and procedures, complete projects, and sign final plans
    • Quality assurance: Ensure that projects are completed to the required quality standards
    • Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and technicians
    • Communication: Work with outside vendors and contractors to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget
    Some engineering supervisors may specialize in a particular area, such as bridges, retaining walls, culverts, highways, hydraulic operations, structural, electrical, mechanical, or water resources.
