Key Responsibilities:
• Reviewing medical records:
Thoroughly examine laboratory reports, patient demographics, and clinical information to extract relevant details for coding.
• Code assignment:
Accurately assign appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT procedure codes, and HCPCS codes for laboratory tests performed based on established coding guidelines.
• Quality control:
Conduct regular audits to ensure coding accuracy, identify potential errors, and address discrepancies with healthcare providers.
• Compliance maintenance:
Stay updated on current coding regulations and guidelines, including payer specific rules, to ensure compliant billing practices.
• Data entry:
Input coded information into electronic health records (EHR) systems, ensuring proper data integrity and timely submission of claims.
• Collaboration with healthcare teams:
Communicate with laboratory technicians, physicians, and billing staff to clarify diagnoses, procedures, and coding issues.
• Coding research:
Utilize coding manuals, online databases, and other resources to resolve complex coding queries and stay abreast of coding updates.Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Knowledge of laboratory procedures:
Understanding different types of laboratory tests, specimen collection methods, and their corresponding codes.
• Medical terminology proficiency:
