Location: SUNNYVALE, CACareer Area: Software Development and EngineeringJob Function: Software Engineering and ArchitectureEmployment Type: Regular/PermanentPosition Type: SalaryRequisition: R-2063201What youll do at Position Summary...What youll do...About Team:Focusing on customer, associate, and business needs, this team works with Walmart International, which includes more than 5,200 retail units, operating in 23 countries such as Canada, Central America, Chile, Mexico, and South Africa to name a few.The Group Director of Software Engineering will be a pivotal technology leader (reporting to Vice President, Engineering), overseeing a global team of engineers and driving the development of next-generation platforms for Walmart International eCommerce with a specific focus on Purchase, Post-Purchase, Customer Care, and Communication:

• Leading a team of senior engineering leaders and architects to design, build, and maintain the next-generation, multi-market technology platform on a global scale.
• Collaborating with product, business, and operations leaders to define, prioritize, and execute the product and technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.
• Building and nurturing a world-class engineering organization, including recruiting, mentoring, and developing senior architects and engineering leaders to foster a high-performing team.
• Proactively identifying and addressing customer issues, ensuring continuous improvement in platform availability, reliability, performance, and user experience.
• Cultivating a culture of innovation, platform thinking, and engineering/operational excellence, driving continuous improvement in both product development and operational efficiency.

This role requires a visionary leader who can balance technical expertise with strategic business acumen and who is passionate about shaping the future of Walmarts global eCommerce.What youll bring:

• Domain expertise in designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems, with a strong focus on high availability, reliability, and performance. Experience with eCommerce platforms is highly preferred.
• 10 years of experience managing large engineering organizations (200 engineers), with a proven track record of leading senior engineering leaders and architects.
• In-depth knowledge of large-scale distributed system technologies.
• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
• Proven ability to influence across functional boundaries, driving consensus and aligning diverse teams toward common goals.
• Demonstrated success in hiring, mentoring, and growing top-tier engineering talentcreating high-performance, high-impact teams.
• BS or MS degree in Computer Science (or related technical field) with 20 years of industry experience in engineering and technology leadership.
• Prior experience in high-growth startups within eCommerce or Marketplace environmentsideally with a focus on scaling and innovating fast-paced platforms.
• A strong bias toward innovation, with a passion for continuously evolving technology solutions and introducing new approaches to solve complex problems.
• Customer empathydeep understanding of customer needs, with the ability to create technology solutions that enhance the user experience.
