Job Description

    A Medical Coder reviews patient medical records and translates clinical documentationsuch as diagnoses, procedures, and medical equipmentinto standardized alphanumeric code sets (ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS). These codes are essential for processing accurate insurance claims and securing financial reimbursement for healthcare providers.Key Responsibilities
    • Review Patient Charts: Analyze medical records, physician notes, and lab results to extract clinical data.
    • Assign Standard Codes: Correctly apply ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on documentation.
    • Verify Compliance: Ensure all codes meet government guidelines, insurance policies, and HIPAA privacy rules.
    • Collaborate with Clinicians: Query healthcare providers to clarify ambiguous or incomplete medical notes.
    Key Requirements
    • Certifications: Strongly preferred or required credentials, such as the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
    • Skills: Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology; high attention to detail; and proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) software.
