Job Description

Principal Engineer - Backend (Java)Full-timeCompany DescriptionLaunched in 2007, ixigo is an AI-based travel app based in Gurugram, India. ixigo services Indian travelers and their travel utility, planning, and booking problems using technology and artificial intelligence. Offering train, flight, and bus utility & bookings, the company applies AI for deal discovery, personalized recommendations, airfare predictions & alerts, train delay prediction, PNR confirmation prediction, and automated customer service.As a Principal Engineer - Backend (strong Product background), you will play a critical role in the design, planning, development, and deployment of software applications. You will be responsible for all aspects of development and help develop best practices for future development. You will work closely with Tech, Design and Quality teams to build and launch the product.

  • You will code, develop, design, and architect features related to the existing application.
  • We expect you to own modules end to end and take pride in the work products you ship.
  • You will design, implement, test, and maintain highly scalable, multi-tier, distributed server software applications.
  • You will deliver across the entire app life cycle, including design, build, deploy, test, release to app stores, and support.
  • You will work directly with developers and product managers to conceptualize, build, test, and release products.
  • You will take responsibility for the performance and stability of all the applications and related infrastructure.
  • You will continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency.
Qualifications
  • You should have at least an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, and Engineering, preferably from IITs/Top RECs.
  • You should have 5-7 years of experience at cutting-edge organizations or startups.
  • You should have expertise in Java/J2EE technology.
  • You should have proficiency in the implementation of algorithms and the use of advanced data structures to solve problems in computing.
  • You should have experience with e-business/e-commerce applications and business environments.
  • Any experience with internet companies or the travel industry will be a plus.
  • You should have a good understanding of Java/J2EE and design patterns.
  • You should have strong knowledge of data structures and designing for performance, scalability, and availability.
  • You should have expertise in relational databases like MySQL or Postgres.
  • You should have knowledge in MongoDB and Web services.
  • You should have extensive use of Instruments and Shark to detect memory leaks and for performance optimization.
  • You should have a good grasp of algorithms, memory management, and multithreaded programming.
  • You should have experience in writing Unit tests, Automation tests.
  • Having exposure to Test Driven Development is a plus.
  • You should have great people skills!
  • You should be able to fit in well within an informal startup environment and provide hands-on management.
  • You should have a high energy level and untiring commitment to drive oneself & the team towards goals.
