POSITION SUMMARY: We are currently hiring a Director of QA to join our Packet Software and Access R&D team to lead feature test organization made up of multiple test teams and more than 75 engineers. Director leading this software test organization is responsible for testing and automation of various networking technologies delivered via Ciena s Service Aware Operating System (SAOS) running on Access, Aggregation and Routing devices. These technologies deliver solutions in the area of Network disaggregation, Network modernization, Ethernet Business Services(EBS), IP/MPLS/L3/2 Routing, Metro Architecture, 5G xHAUL, SDN/NFV, telemetry, TDM transformation, Next-Gen Access Networks etc.The Packet Software and Access R&D organization is responsible for delivering Access, Aggregation and Routing platforms and Service Aware Operating System (SAOS) that runs on these platforms. The packet portfolio comprises of broad family of products in the area of Service Provider, Enterprise and Datacenter networks. Currently Packet division has more than 1 Million devices deployed worldwide. Their Next-Generation operating system provids a virtualized, disaggregated solution that runs not only on Ciena s devices but also on third party whitebox devices.As a director of an energetic test team, you will be responsible for managing and leading multiple test teams that are responsible for developing test strategies and test plans and responsible for test execution of various projects across multiple SAOS releases running on a broad spectrum of Ciena s networking products. He/she knows how to drive strategy and lead the high-performance test team with a passion for the business and desire to deliver the best. This role will require hands on technical management as well as people management which includes day to day management of resources, tracking and reporting team s test execution progress in various cross-functional meetings. He/she will be responsible for co-coordinating activities between North American and India teams R&D teams.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate various release related activities with Program managers, Product Line Architects, Product Line Managers and Development and test directors.
• Work closely with other QA directors to plan overall test and automation strategies for each release.
• Guide test teams about test and automation strategies and help them develop and execute test plans for various projects across multiple releases.
• Ability to guide teams to develop or improve troubleshooting and problem-solving skills needed for test execution.
• Lead a large and diverse team of test engineers and maintain high level of engagement with the team by aligning their needs with Organizational requirements and goals. Help team understand Packet software vision and strategy and how they align with their work.
• Initiate and lead new infrastructure processes, standards, tools, training and proposals with management team members to facilitate the best development environment for meeting time to market pressures in a multisite development environment.
• Review product requirements, architecture and designs and provide feedback to development teams. Team up with development organizations in order to ensure customer quality in the Packet Networking products and at the same time drive balance across features, functionality, reliability and time to market delivery.
• Mentor and coach all managers in EIT organization and help them in career progression.
• Help automation of the features in a timely manner and work with the automation framework and regression teams during the releases
• Develop a strong focus on quality, on time delivery and development processes on software team.
• Perform other managerial duties, including staffing, performance management and working with individual managers and engineers for career management.
• Willing to travel to North America R&D centers for leadership and planning meetings.

SKILLS

• Experience working in embedded software design and development is required.
• Requires strong knowledge of Networking technologies; especially Carrier Ethernet, MPLS, IP, MPLS-TP, L2 Protocols, L3 Routing, SDN, Segment Routing, G.8032, TDM etc.
• Practical, commercial experience managing complex software development efforts through the complete software development and product life cycle, including post-production support.
• Planning and successfully executing large-scale telecom product development projects and led large software feature test or solution testing teams.
• Strong leadership and motivational skills resulting in high retention and morale within teams.
• Experience managing, mentoring, and career planning for the software engineering team.
• Excellent team building skills, has worked and lead different teams and team-members of different age groups, experiences and skills within and across the partner organizations
• Understanding of waterfall as well as agile development process is preferable.
• Multi-site development, integration and verification experience is also a plus.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to interact at a senior executive level providing update on strategy, release status and project execution.
• Ability to evaluate performance of team members and provide fair and honest feedback and if needed take necessary steps to improve performance and productivity of a team member.

EDUCATION and/or RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

• Advanced Technical Degree (MSCS or MSEE preferred)
• At least 15 years experience in telecommunications, data networking, storage networking and/or enterprise networking industries with at least 10 years of demonstrated experience of successful product delivery, managing people, projects and budgets in a multi-site development environment.
