Job Description

    Role DescriptionThe CTO edge cloud and open networking team is looking for a software designer to assist with the implementation of CTO projects and investigations; potentially including contributions to industry open-source projects, internal prototypes or proof of concept demonstrations, and production code contributions.The successful candidate will be able to work in a flexible work environment and easily switch between projects as CTO priorities and directions shift. They will be a self-starter as well as an individual that can proactively supervise their own tasks given their current project and goals of that project.ResponsibilitiesParticipate in the definition and implementation of solution prototypes & proof of concept trials as well as support internal and external demonstrations.Identify development tasks required to meet project goals and work with a team to assign those tasks to various team membersAccurately estimate development time tasks and meet the expectationsProduced well-reasoned and clean implementation codeAdvise on adherence to standards, industry best practices, and open-source trends to ensure that Ciena is delivering the highest quality solutions internally and to our customers.Experience / SkillsRequiredRecord of significantly chipping in to software development projects including the ability to implement new features and address bug fixesHands on experince on programming languages: Golang/ PythonExperience with concurrent and distributed program techniquesGood communications, presentation, and influencing skills, with a collaboration-first attitude able to work across multiple teams in the company and industry.Self-starter, team-oriented, and able to deal with ambiguity with a bias for action in a collaborative environment.Not afraid of new technologies or areas outside their down main experiencePreferredTelecom industry standards & open-source communities: ETSI, TMF, IEEE, LF Networking, CNCF, ONF, TIP.Layer 2, 3, and 4 network technologiesExposure to distributed control systems design, high availability, data synchronization, and associated network protocols.Experience with compute and network virtualization & container technologies (Linux KVM, OpenStack, VMWare, Docker, ETSI NFV, and CNCF CNF)Experience with modeling & declarative languages and tooling: Netconf/YANG, TOSCA, YAML, Helm, Terraform, Ansible.Experience with cloud-native technologies, microservices-based design, cloud systems such as AWS and GCP as well as container management systems such as Kubernetes and CNCF ecosystem.,
