Job Description

Reviewing patient medical records, such as doctors notes, lab reports, and treatment plans, to extract relevant information.Assigning appropriate diagnosis codes using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) system and procedure codes using the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) or Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS).Ensuring that the coding accurately reflects the services provided and the patients condition, in accordance with coding guidelines and payer requirements.Submitting the coded information to insurance providers or other payers to facilitate the reimbursement process.Maintaining detailed documentation of the coding process and any changes or clarifications made.Staying up-to-date on the latest coding regulations, guidelines, and industry changes to ensure compliance.Communicating with healthcare providers, billing personnel, and insurance representatives to resolve any coding discrepancies or issues.Participating in audits and quality assurance processes to validate the accuracy and completeness of the coding.Utilizing coding software and technology to streamline the coding process and ensure consistency.Protecting patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations throughout the coding process.
