• Job Title: Inpatient Expert
• Department:Medical Coding
• Job Summary in Brief:Highly skilled and experienced inpatient coder who responsible for reviewing electronic patient charts and physician notes in order to determine and assign the proper and most accurate medical codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• Essential Job Responsibilities:
• 1 Reviews inpatient medical records and assigned accurate ICD-10-CM and PCS codes for diagnoses and procedures.
• 2 Assigns and sequence codes accurately based on medical record documentation.
• 3 Follows all HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) rules and regulations.
• 4 Assigns POA indicators correctly.
• 5 Thorough understanding and application of medical necessity, DRGs, APGs, and APRs for processing claims.
• 6 Involves in ensuring data integrity including appropriate sequencing and dispositions, resolving all coding edits prior to finalizing the charts, compliant with United States Local and Federal Regulations.
• 7 Continuing education for ICD10 with Elsevier modules, staying current with coding clinics, and revised codes.
• 8 Keeps current with all coding updates/changes through Coding Clinics and literature.
• 9 Querying physicians regarding incomplete documentation and/or clarification regarding coding diagnoses or procedures etc., which impacts on DRG.
• 10 Attends weekly/monthly education meetings, which goes over common mistakes made, new Coding Clinic examples, practice coding problems, etc.
• 11 Perform coding across multiple facilities/patient types as per requirement.
• 12 Maintains a professional appearance. Should understand, support, enforce and comply with company policies, procedures and Standards of Business Ethics and Conduct.
• Supervisory Responsibilities
• Span of Control ( No of reportees) NA
• Total number of employees supervised; include those directly supervised and those supervised through subordinate supervisors NA
• Job Qualifications:
• Education Must be any graduate.
• Experience Not less than 2 years in IP coding.
• Knowledge / Skills Should be proficient with ICD-10-CM and PCS coding concepts and regulatory guidelines.Should be proficient with MS-DRG payment system.Knowledge of 3M coding and abstracting software, Epic and Meditech systems.
• Licenses / Certifications Must be certified by AAPC and/or AHIMA. (Preferable CCS, CIC)
• Working Conditions :
• Should have worked on a heterogeneous environment with excellent analytical, writing, and keyboarding skills.
• Physical Demands:
• Client interfacing skills would be added advantage.
