Job Description

    Commis Chef is an entry-level position in a kitchen, often considered the first step in a culinary career. They assist more experienced chefs in various tasks, including food preparation, cleaning, and stock rotation, all while learning kitchen operations and culinary techniques. Key Responsibilities of a Commis Chef:Food Preparation: Washing, peeling, cutting, and preparing ingredients like vegetables, fruits, and meat under the supervision of a chef de partie (station chef). Assisting Other Chefs:Helping with various tasks at different kitchen stations, such as sauces, vegetables, fish, or butchery. Kitchen Cleanliness:Maintaining a clean and organized work area, including cleaning workstations and equipment, and following food hygiene and safety standards. Stock Management:Receiving deliveries, storing ingredients properly, rotating stock to prevent waste, and ensuring food items are not expired. Learning and Training:Undergoing formal training and on-the-job learning to develop cooking and kitchen organizational skills. Measuring Ingredients:Accurately measuring ingredients according to recipes, often arriving early to prepare for the days cooking. Following Instructions:Complying with directions from the chef de partie and other experienced chefs, ensuring quality and consistency in food preparation. Adhering to Standards:Maintaining high standards of personal hygiene and ensuring work areas are clean and tidy.
