Job Description

    IntroductionSystem Services Representatives are the primary technical interface to clients for the coordination of hardware and software support and delivery of operational services. You will advise clients of preventive maintenance, configuration, operation and environmental factors which may drastically impact product performance or impair the client s IT operation.Your Role and Responsibilities As an IBM Linux L2 Support Engineer, You are expected to work for providing technical support and expertise for IBM Linux distributions, ensuring the stability, performance, and security of Linux-based systems. The role will involve troubleshooting complex issues, collaborating with clients and internal teams, and implementing solutions to meet customer needs. You will need to visit the domestic client s offices / data centers on a daily basis or on an as-needed basis as part of this role. Responsibilities:
    • Provide L2 technical support for IBM Linux distributions (e.g., Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server) to clients and internal teams.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve complex Linux-related issues, including system crashes, performance bottlenecks, network connectivity, and security vulnerabilities.
    • Collaborate with L1 support teams, development teams, and clients to investigate and resolve escalated Linux-related issues within defined service level agreements (SLAs).
    • Analyze system logs, diagnostic data, and performance metrics to identify root causes and implement appropriate solutions.
    • Perform Linux server installations, configurations, and upgrades following best practices and established procedures.
    • Administer and maintain Linux systems, including user management, file system management, and package management.
    • Monitor system health, performance, and security, implementing proactive measures to optimize and secure Linux environments.
    • Implement and maintain backup and recovery solutions for Linux servers and associated data.
    • Provide guidance and recommendations to clients on Linux system architecture, performance tuning, and optimization.
    • Stay updated with the latest Linux technologies, security vulnerabilities, and industry best practices to provide proactive support and recommendations.

    Required Technical and Professional Expertise
    • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
    • Proven experience (2 years) in supporting and troubleshooting Linux-based systems as L2 or 7 Year as L1 in a production environment, preferably with IBM Linux distributions. Strong knowledge of Linux operating system concepts, architecture, and administration.
    • Experience with IBM Power Systems or IBM Z Systems is a plus.
    • Proficiency in Linux shell scripting and automation for system administration tasks.
    • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware or KVM.
    • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, DHCP, and related protocols.
    • Knowledge of Linux security practices and experience implementing security measures such as firewalls, SELinux, and access controls.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex Linux-related issues.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams
    • Willingness to work in nights shifts or support 24 x 7 Coverage as per the Business needs
