• Building Design & Structure:Fire escapes must connect directly to the ground, be constructed of non-combustible materials, and be separated from internal staircases.
• Escape Routes & Signage:All exits must be kept free of obstructions at all times, with proper signage and emergency lighting installed.
• Fire Equipment Maintenance:Fire extinguishers must be in easily accessible locations, with regular inspections of smoke alarms and suppression systems.
• Regulatory Framework:In India, fire safety is guided by the National Building Code of India and Section 38 of theFactories Act of 1948, which mandates trained staff and regular drills.
