Job Description

The Cargo Manager oversees the efficient handling, storage, and transportation of cargo while ensuring compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards. This role requires excellent organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills to manage cargo operations effectively and deliver exceptional service to customers.Key Responsibilities
1. Cargo Operations Management
   • Plan, supervise, and coordinate daily cargo handling and transport activities.
   • Ensure proper loading, unloading, storage, and distribution of cargo.
   • Oversee inventory management, tracking, and documentation of shipments.
2. Team Leadership
   • Manage and lead the cargo handling team, providing training and guidance.
   • Allocate tasks and monitor staff performance to ensure operational efficiency.
   • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and customer service excellence.
3. Customer Relationship Management
   • Liaise with clients to understand their shipping requirements and resolve issues promptly.
   • Ensure on-time delivery and adherence to service agreements.
   • Address customer complaints and implement solutions to enhance satisfaction.
4. Compliance and Safety
   • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international regulations for cargo handling and transport.
   • Enforce safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks and maintain a safe work environment.
   • Monitor cargo handling equipment for maintenance needs and report any issues.
5. Cost and Process Optimization
   • Develop strategies to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
   • Implement technology and systems to streamline cargo operations and tracking.
   • Analyze key performance metrics and generate reports for management.
6. Documentation and Reporting
   • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of shipping documents, including bills of lading, manifests, and customs declarations.
   • Maintain records of shipments, delays, and other operational activities for reporting purposes.
Key Qualifications
• Education:
  • Bachelors degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Experience:
  • 3-5 years of experience in logistics, cargo operations, or a related role (management experience preferred).
• Skills:
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in logistics software and inventory management systems.
  • Knowledge of cargo handling regulations and safety standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
Work Environment
• Work may involve office and on-site settings, such as warehouses, shipping terminals, or airports.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays, depending on operational requirements.
Additional Requirements
• Knowledge of international shipping regulations and customs clearance procedures.
• Certification in logistics or supply chain management (e.g., CILT, CSCP) is a plus.
• Physical ability to oversee cargo handling in operational areas.
