A Microsoft SQL Database Administrator (DBA), acting as a subject matter expert within the SQL Database Operations Team. Your primary function will be to operate SQL databases ensuring that systems are running optimally, ensuring availability, efficiency, security and recoverability.Working in the Database Operations team as a subject matter expert and with our private cloud providers who manage a complimentary set of database installations you will be performing root cause analysis of MS SQL service outages, interruptions and performance issues as they occur to ensure operational excellence.Aligning with our Engineering function you will play a key role around future database developments with overlapping periods of build and project tasks may be expected, however this is not part of the primary functionShow More We offerUnderstanding, articulating, and operating MS SQL database platform management. The SQL DBA will be an active participant of a work-group with the need for specialised knowledge regarding database operations. Ensuring SQL database platforms are running 24/7. Develop and maintain automation scripts for daily operations such as backups, index rebuilds and consistency checks. Sound knowledge of T-SQL in terms of coding stored procedures. Database design for performance considerations surrounding T-SQL optimisation and SQL query performance tuning to reduce blocking and deadlocks. Monitoring of relevant, important database health indicators for capacity management. Patching of systems and proactively preventing incidents. Where incidents have occurred, the DBA will actively support the problem management process to resolve and avoid further occurrences. Contribute to continual service improvement by challenging, reviewing, updating and where inexistent creating, processes and procedures in order to drive operational excellence. Reviewing technical documentation from the build team, such as user guides, manuals, and system specifications, prior to transition into operation, and ensuring their subject area is accurately represented Keeping up to date with current trends in IT.Show More Key responsibilitiesA Senior MS SQL Database Administrator is essential. Previous roles might include Development Database Administrator, Data Analyst, or development exposure to MS-SQL and the Microsoft BI Stack. Proven experience with Database Administration for MSSQL Server 2008 R2 through 2017; troubleshooting and resolving database problems, Performance Tuning and Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools. Expertise with backups, restores and recovery models. Proficient in High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for MSSQL Server. Always-On, FCI and AG Replication Transactional & Log shipping Experience in implementing operational automation using scripts. Explicit Knowledge of indexes, index management, and statistics. Analysis Services, Integration Services, Master Data Services, Reporting Services and Data Quality Services experience would be considered a plus Experience working with Windows server, Azure including Active Directory and proper disk configurations. Proven experience working with database migration projects. Recent experience with SQL DB migration from on premise to Azure highly desirable.Preferred certifications, but not limited to: ITIL Foundation Experience with ITIL framework, Service Operations and Service TransitionIn addition, would be advantageous any/some of the following: Knowledge or experience with management platforms (SCOM/SCCM / SentryOne) will be considered a plus.
