The Azure Data team in Microsoft, builds and operates some of the worlds largest Cloud computing services.The team works on massively distributed technologie s at Exabyte scales. One such system is t he SCOPE analytics engine , which runs hundreds of thousands of batch jobs per day on the COSMOS distributed big data platform , analyzing exabytes of data.All Microsoft divisions rely on SCOPE to store and analyze data, with individual jobs ranging into the tens of petabytes.All Microsoft divisions rely on SCOPE to store and analyze data, with individual jobs ranging into the tens of petabytes.The SCOPE team is looking for a talented and motivated S oftware Engineer to help develop its ultra-scale distributed big data analytics engine .You will be a part of team of engineers evolving the query optimizer.Your focus will be on the automatic compilation of queries via generation and selection of scale-out query plans.The query optimizer plays a role in every compilation and has a stake in a variety of new capabilities as well as continued focus on our core plan quality goals., The ideal candidate should be excited about massively distributed systems, attentive to customer needs, comfortable with ambiguous and conflicting evidence, able to prioritize. The candidate needs to be highly self-motivated and result-oriented.Specific requirements:BS or higher degree in computer science . MS/PhD a plusStrong Academic background and/ or Work experience in one or more of the following:R elational query processingD istributed systemsC ompilersD atabase systemsS earch & indexingQuery optimizationStrong problem solving and coding skills4 + years experience in C++ or C# or JavaAbility to deal with ambiguity and work in collaborative fast pace environment
