Technical Expert - Plastic Materials

Job Description

*Role:

• Responsible for Plastic material selection for new product developments, PEP/PMP/QVE, and continuous engineering projects.
• Support design, industrial, quality, and other teams on material selection, testing & evaluation, material characterization and failure analysis.
• Evaluate technical specifications and write raw material Specification considering, technical, environmental, regulatory, standards and other functional requirements of the part or product.
• Propose immediate alternatives to a material issue during prototyping or manufacturing.
• To perform complete material testing as and when required in coordination with internal or external labs.
• To support teams on product or material failure analysis and to suggest solutions to solve customer / manufacturing issues.
• Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.
• Support design and industrial teams on manufacturing and process issues related to materials.
• Support to design/Industrial and products teams on DFM&A, basic design guideline etc.
• Coordinate and work with Schneider global materials team in defining local needs and overall corporate material strategy considering standards and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in supplier audit and define rules and policies on their raw materials based on Schneider global technical and purchase strategy
• Coordinate with country purchase / Procurement for all material related topics to manage supplier orientation, material shortages, alternate qualification, double sourcing etc.
• Support overall company strategy on sustainability goals by developing green material solutions .
• Conduct trainings on materials, testing and characterization, manufacturing process, applications for internal teams.

Skill Set, Education and Experience:

• B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech in Plastic Engineering / polymer engineering / Materials Science with 7 to 12 yrs of experience as Materials engineer/expert.
• Good knowledge on Plastic materials (Thermoplastic/Thermoset), Elastomers, TPE s, Rubbers etc.
• Experience in working with engineering and specialty materials like PA6, PA66, PC, PBT, PET, PPS, PPA etc
• Experience in testing or interpretation and understanding or characterization tests like DSC, TGA, DMA , Viscosity, MFI, RTI etc
• Completed knowledge on plastic and elastomeric materials in respect to its properties, application, manufacturing process and its failure analysis etc
• Good skills in understand the relationship between the structure of materials and their properties and means of processing, and how these factors affect the product or part.
• Must be able to figure out why a product might have failed, design a solution, and then conduct tests to make sure the product does not fail again.
• Good knowledge on material failure analysis or root-cause analysis and to propose solution based on the issue
• Assessing materials for specific properties such as its Mechanical strength, load bearing capacity, fatigue, electrical conductivity, durability etc
• Good knowledge on prototyping technologies for plastic materials
• working to solve problems arising during the manufacturing process or with the finished product, such as those caused by material or associated factors
• Good knowledge on material standards and related regulations and norms ( UL, IEC, REACH, ROHS, Halogen free )etc
• Experience in driving innovation and material evaluation projects for new technological areas
• Overall awareness on material market situation, its commercial amplification and cost impact
