Job Description

J.P. Morgan Custody provides Institutional investors access to markets worldwide for the settlement, safekeeping and asset servicing of securities, along with ancillary services such as Foreign Exchange and Liquidity Solutions. This product suite, along with our Markets business, helps us service our core client segments: Asset Managers, Asset Owners, Insurance/GSEs, Banks/Broker Dealers and Hedge Funds and Alternatives. We are committed to delivering investor solutions that help clients protect their portfolios, optimize their efficiency and maximize opportunities in diverse global markets.The Custody Middle Office Department is responsible for ensuring all aspects of operations for clients are completed, transactions are processed on time, exceptions are resolved proactively; provide single point of contact team and subject matter expertise to the clients. Middle Office covers trade instruction capture, settlement; fail management, cash instruction capture, projections, overdrafts, asset servicing instruction capture, dividends, foreign exchange, collateral, derivatives lifecycle management and bank loans.Roles & responsibilitiesReporting to the Custody Operations Manager (VP/ ED), you will be responsible for the following: At this level you will be required to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of relevant work processes alongside an understanding of related and interfacing activities to provide effective handling of client activity in mutual and hedge funds. There will also be a major focus on liaison with other third parties and departments within JP Morgan and globally. Some of the key activities are as follows:

  • Day to day monitoring of incoming client instructions eg subscription, redemption, transfer and switches
  • Timely and efficient processing of said orders into custody platform and onwards to external counterparties
  • Completion of all necessary paperwork to facilitate order processing eg subscription documents, stock transfer forms etc
  • Processing of all related cash processing for subscriptions/transfers and monitoring for incoming cash proceeds
  • Ensure compliance as appropriate with regulatory requirements and with the relevant short, medium and long-term goals, objectives and values of JP Morgan
  • Day to day monitoring of incoming administrator communications eg contract notes, statements etc
  • Monitor, analyze, input and process all corporate action activity on client portfolios in a manner consistent with client SLA s e.g proxies, equalization, roll ups etc
  • Provide regular feedback to managers and more senior colleagues with regard to workflow, issues etc.
  • Liaise with external counterparties and other departments in a competent and professional manner at all times as representative of JP Morgan and the Custody Dept.
  • Assist with ad hoc projects/requests as deemed appropriate by Managers and more senior colleagues eg portfolio transitions, system testing etc
  • Handle and resolve complex/unusual operational problems that are referred from above or from Custody Client Service Group
  • Make sound operational decisions in those instances consistent with appropriate client service and internal Management demands
  • Continually strive to develop hedge fund expertise demonstrating judgment and an understanding of the business
  • Ensure static data maintained on system is accurate and up to date by cross referencing and validating against Funds offering documentation, prospectuses
  • Governance and oversight of offshore and onshore teams

  • Excellent prior custody & fund services, markets or prime brokerage operational experience along with managing staff

Business and Subject Matter Knowledge
  • Strong financial markets product knowledge and understanding of the transaction lifecycle in Custody and/or
  • Subject matter expertise in Equities, Fixed Income, FX, Collateral, Derivatives or any specific vertical would be an added advantage but not compulsory.
  • Knowledge of Settlements, Crest and Euroclear will be an added advantage.
