Job Description

  • Designing and implementing new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current networks
  • Installing, configuring and supporting network equipment including routers, proxy servers, switches, WAN accelerators, DNS and DHCP, load balancers, firewalls
  • Maximising network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting. Hands on knowledge of troubleshooting network faults and fixing them by raising a change
  • Arranging scheduled upgrades and updating network equipment to the latest firmware releases
  • Support capacity management of the entire DC&EMSE (VDC/MTN & EC/MTN2) estate (DC compute, IP address ranges, b/w, FW licenses etc.). Direct team to pull capacity information together for regular reports and cross reference with demand forecasts from bid/deployment teams.
  • Responsible end-to-end for the Service Assurance within the EMSE (Enterprise Management System Engineering) platform. Ensure existing and new GS services sold using the platform can be supported, grow and adapt to all demands.
  • Help coordinate annual PEN testing activities and ensuring platforms engage and remedy any exposures/vulnerabilities.
  • Support any major programmes that will have a direct impact on the EMSE capability. ie for new products, security improvements, new tooling, capability uplifts, migration activities etc.
  • Ensure full exploitation of systems and technology to deliver agreed transformation goals aligned to business strategy and to track benefit outcome.
  • Contribute to design deployment patterns and their development as well as ensuring the are adhered to for all contracts.
  • Support contract deliveries whilst aiming to achieve maximum efficiency and collectively drive forward any improvements and optimizations. Produce metrics to show such improvements.
  • Provide 4th line E2E support. Assist where necessary (with local and UK EMSE team) fault triage effort and re-direct clearly captured information to the appropriate teams (ie within BT Security, Datacenter networks, MPLS, Platform ASG and end-customer / OPs).
  • Promote and contribute to knowledge sharing. Ensure design documents are up-to-date / accurate. Make sure designs use the latest formats and support incidents refer/make-use of the latest information.
  • Help promote EMSE teams services and achievements to wider BT
Youll have the following skills & experience
  • Expertise in Networking skills is a must with good working knowledge on enterprise-enterprise connectivity, network management, Data centre networking which includes networking protocols (ie policy routing and NAT), Routing & Switching, firewalls, VPNs, IPSec, TACACS, security, etc.
    • May support a technical team to develop the design solution.
    • Will be proactive in optimising all platform and design related processes.
    • Will be seen as a Technical Consultant with regard to GS Complex Contracts Systems. Understanding what matters to customers, contracts and to our business.
    • Ensure that the appropriate level of Technical support is provided at all stages of design.
    • Responsible for contributing to producing technical design / deployment templates and meeting all governance requirements.
    • Working with business representatives, process leads, analysts and domain architects to ensure our designs are feasible and realistic.
    • Strong understanding of technical and industry trends in the Systems space including how the GS Service stack is best utilised for Contract deliveries. ie understand what we sell across the Product and Custom space.
    • Engagement with platforms, ASGs, OPs, customers and contracts proving able to articulate roadmaps in support of winning/retaining new business as required.
    • To provide specialist leadership on technical projects/operational support tasks for their managers or sponsors independently with minimal guidance. This may involve working alone or as part of a wider project/support team, managing specific tasks.
    • Responsible for managing and developing teams or people for specific tasks or projects.
    • To draft reports and make recommendations to managers and project sponsors.
  • To provide analytical and innovative input to projects/operational issues as well as support negotiations.
  • To provide specialist leadership in managing project teams involved in the delivery of specific tasks associated with ICT based business transformation programmes, strategic projects and change initiatives within time, cost and quality parameters.
  • Min 10 years of relevant experience
  • CCNA, CCNP or equivalent level certified
  • Ability to interpret customer/contract/platform/programme requirements.
  • Ability to understand GS strategic systems actual and intended.
  • Align with bid/delivery teams in terms of platform capacity and capability to meet demands / forecasts.
  • Ability to understand when strategic systems will not meet design goals.
  • Ensure a balance between design governance / compliance vs. ACF exemption.
  • Ability to tie-together the separate (silo ed) support teams to guide incidents through to resolution E2E.
