Job Description

Objective of the Role:

As an engineering leader of the supply chain engineering team, your primary responsibility will be to build a high performing engineering team that strives to deliver scalable technical solutions for our supply chain while ensuring smooth operations of services.

Roles Responsibilities:

  • Building a high performing engineering team that strives for technical excellence.
  • Hiring the best talent for growing needs of the business and upskilling existing teams to get them ready for new challenges.
  • Building leaders in the supply chain engineering team at various levels to scale innovation and continuous improvement. Ensuring growth of individuals on your team.
  • Building an agile tech organization. Build systems and motivate teams to collaborate with business/operations to continuously deliver business value at high velocity.
  • Collaborating with product and business functions to deliver technical solutions that enable agility and quality of services in the supply chain.
  • Ensuring that the architecture for supply chain systems is continuously evolving to solve for evolving business needs - refactoring, bringing in new paradigms and technologies, building accelerators that enable agility and speed of delivery of solutions.
  • Working with the technology leadership (i.e. engineering, product, design) as a team to drive systemic improvements in how Grofers technology works.
  • Instituting processes that ensure high quality of delivery, service levels and ensure continuous improvement of systems and tech debt reduction.

    • Desired Skills abilities:

  • At least 7 years experience as a Tech Leader to mobile, web, data platform or distributed backend systems. Should be ready to get in the fire with the team to help them fight the toughest problem-solving situations.
  • Engineering excellence: should have demonstrated engineering excellence in past experience. Should have strong programming, architecture, DevOps and QA chops. Experience in working with a diverse polyglot engineering stack in a fast-paced environment. (Our stack includes Python, Java, Scala, JavaScript (React.js), MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, Spark, Ansible, Kubernetes, AWS, and anything else that is the best tool to do the job.).
  • Experience with agile engineering practices is a must. As a leader of the engineering team, you will be responsible to champion the agile product development and continuous improvement culture.
  • Prior management and team-building experience - youll be managing several direct reports initially and will have the opportunity to scale and build out a high-performing engineering team. You should be a good coach and believe in using influence for making things happen from your team.
  • You will be judged based on your ability to identify opportunities and lead/grow engineers through efficient execution. You must be persuasive, patient, compassionate and possess exquisite prioritization skills.
  • Biased toward action - must be able to do more with less and turn blockers into opportunities for growth.
  • Excellent execution, organization and ability to collaborate - you should be comfortable executing with little oversight and be able to adapt to problems quickly.
  • Strategic mindset - should be comfortable thinking a few steps ahead of where the team is at now.
  • Principled yet pragmatic - A qualified candidate should have conviction and be authentic in their approach, but situationally aware enough to adapt when needed.
  • Vision - Complement product and design leadership with finding the right solution to complex problems of running an efficient supply chain and logistics business.
  • Most importantly, should be committed to building a world-class engineering team.
