Job Description

Job Title: Senior Manager, Protein Biology

  • The Senior Manager role in Bangalore R&D will join the leadership team in developing products and solutions for developing, validating and characterizing Antibodies for the growing Thermo Fisher Antibody portfolio. The candidate should be well versed with Antibody development using state-of-art cell, molecular biology, recombinant methods for creating data sets to enable high quality products to customers. This position involves cross functional collaboration internal and external to drive technical strategies for execution in R&D projects involving state-of-art methods including western blotting, chromatin immunoprecipitation, RNA immunoprecipitation, Antibody engineering, protein conjugation and flow applications.
Role & Responsibilities
  • R&D Senior Manager role in new Antibody development projects with vast experience in experimental planning and execution to meet the program milestone.
  • Contribute in a fast-paced environment towards Antibody Development & Validation
  • Leads a multi-layered organization of R&D Managers and Scientists, promote and sustain matrix style operations, provide technical and operational supervision.
  • Mentoring and coaching scientists in research, designing and experimental execution, interpreting data and data presentation to the stakeholders.
  • Delivering high quality results according to project schedule in support of product commercialization from concept to launch including early feasibility, development and validation phases.
  • Works across functions and multiple stakeholder groups to help design and execute R&D strategies and planning
  • Represents R&D group to other sites and divisions for cross-site collaborations and projects
  • Effective communication in leadership forums to build strategic and decision-making process in alignment with upper management
  • Works collaboratively with Senior Management and other R&D managers to maintain alignment of resources on priority projects
  • Build a strong collaboration with manufacturing, technical support and quality teams by providing scientific guidance and assignment of resources to assist in troubleshooting.
Skills and Experience
  • Role model in providing leadership and career development guidance
  • Experience in the field of molecular biology, protein expression, protein purification, and protein-protein interaction
  • Experience in applying scientific principles and concepts in Antibody Development platforms with knowledge of emerging technologies such as deep sequencing or mining of antibody repertoires using NGS, phage or cell display, affinity maturation etc. Spatial omics knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience in applying scientific principles and concepts
  • Mentors managers and scientists and effectively leads group activities
  • Strong background in independently developing and using Antibody based assays
  • Ability to provide technical trouble shooting to resolve scientific problems.
  • Proficient in software or platforms for molecular biology and sequence analysis, MS Office and statistic software such as GraphPad Prism.
  • Strong oral, written and presentation skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage complex research and development programs
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills through formal and informal discussions with peers, team, colleagues, supervisor and upper management
  • Ph.D in Biotechnology/Life Sciences or related discipline or Masters in cell biology/biotechnology, genetics or related fields with at least 12+ years of relevant experience
  • Must have at least 5+ years of previous management experience. Demonstrated leadership attributes working in multi-layered R&D organization set-up in leading Managers and Scientists.
