They are not just testers; they are also developers who design, automate, and find creative ways to solve potential problems.The Red Hat Linux Engineering team is looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join our team establishing functional safety capabilities for Linux. In this role, you will work on the implementation of the necessary functionality and establish the required proof to meet functional safety certification requirements for a select set of software products and components. This work is collaborative with internal kernel engineering teams as well as the greater Linux community including some of the Linux Foundation s working groups. Target applications include those requiring safety integrity level - SIL and ASIL certifications (IEC 61508, ISO 26262, ISO 21434).   • Apply functional safety requirements related to software development process and map them to open source community-based collaborative development and Red Hat s downstream structured engineering
  • Define a test plan and conduct related testing
  • Collaborate with Red Hatters, partners, and other industry professionals in the Linux Foundation to accelerate functional safety delivery on open source platforms
  • Work in a cross-functional team together with other software engineers, quality engineers, and product and project managers to apply the implementation of those features and processes to the specific software products
  • Lead and enable the software development efforts for the functional safety related features
  • Educate colleagues on best practices in testing software compliant to the automotive functional safety requirements and related compliance and safety standards
  • Actively participate in the definition of the software functional safety quality metrics, benchmarks, and related testing procedures
Required skills
  • Experience with functional safety standards, processes, and requirements (IEC 61508, ISO 26262, ISO 21434)
  • Practical development experience building or testing software for embedded systems, internet of things (IoT) applications or safety critical applications.
  • Great written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with shared ownership of software by a globally collaborative team
  • Enthusiasm to share knowledge and educate others on functional safety requirements and processes
The following are considered a plus:
  • Professional experience related to functional safety certification for automotive software
  • Familiarity and experience with contributions to the Linux kernel
  • Practical knowledge in building and maintaining Linux distributions
  • Past achievement of SIL-2/ASIL-B (or equivalent) functional safety certifications from a certifying authority
  • Experience with open source development model
