Job Description

  • The Senior Controls Engineer - Safety is part of the Safety Systems team that is responsible for the functional safety of GE Onshore wind turbines. This is a is a global engineering role where the scope includes all aspects of functional safety across the full product life cycle.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Create Functional Safety Specifications for the overall turbine safety system including safety relevant hardware and software. Translate safety specifications into detailed design requirements for individual products
  • Establish SW development practices for the design of safety-critical functions in accordance with IEC 61508-3
  • Coach control systems engineers and software developers on SW development for safety-critical systems
  • Act as a focal point for Control Systems expertise within the Safety Systems team. Help connect controls development activities with relevant safety processes. Act as a coach and guide to control system engineers on safety aspects for both HW and SW designs
  • Assist root cause analysis for safety related concerns by working with cross-functional teams representing Fleet Support Engineering, Design Engineering, Regional Fleet Reliability Operations (FRO), EHS, Legal, Supplier Quality, Sourcing, and Chief Engineers Office
Qualifications/Requirements:
    • Bachelor s Degree from an accredited university or college in Engineering or related discipline or equivalent knowledge / experience
    • Significant engineering experience in controls engineering or software development for safety critical systems
    • Fluency in English
    • EU Work Permit
      • If contracted in Spain:Non-national candidates are responsible to know the minimum documentation requirements to be able to be contracted in country: NIE
    Social Security Affiliation Number in Spain (NAF) and Bank Account in Spain. They must be in possession of them at the time of start hiring. GE will not sponsor this requirement.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Advanced degree from an accredited university or college in an Engineering or related discipline or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Experience with Model-Based Software development and proficiency in Simulink or another comparable tool
  • Experience in any of the following fields: Functional safety, formal software verification and validation methods, reliability engineering, SIL assessments, sensors, systems engineering
  • Wind turbine technology understanding is a strong plus
  • Strong communication skills and able to clearly communicate complex concepts or systems to non-experts
