Role and Responsibilities:
Set up, maintain, monitor, manage a diverse group of technologies consumed by a cloud native, broad scale application.
Proactively provide high levels of availability and performance of the application and its environment, striving to deliver best-in-class reliability and QoS. This includes both operations of existing monitoring and management technologies, but also active contributions to investigation and implementation of additional components.
Actively participate in cross discipline agile teams.
Support continuous integration and rapid deployment of the application and utilized infrastructure components.
Continuous improvement! Yourself, your team, the application and platform, etc.
Education & Experience:
Any Full time graduate with 5+ to 8+ years of relevant experience
Comfort in working in a global, geographically diverse team who communicate primarily in English.
Practical experience managing hybrid application infrastructure, equally comfortable and interested in working with *nix and Windows.
Interest and/or experience managing cloud infrastructure, including cloud native SaaS offerings in conjunction with cloud operated but self-controlled components. AWS experience preferred.
Interest and/or experience designing, communicating, implementing, enforcing, and auditing modern security best practices for both application and infrastructure.
Interest and/or experience in operating highly available production environments. This includes rapid and effective incident response using a follow-the-sun model with fellow team members.
An agile DevOps approach to systems engineering. Experience and familiarity with supporting tools a plus. (Jira, Jenkins, Git, etc.)
A pragmatic view of emerging and established infrastructure technologies and platforms. Be ready and willing to learn and adopt new technology quickly, but also to weigh TCO, maturity, and manageability of a component before encouraging and supporting adoption.
Technical Skills:
Experience/interest in scripting (bash and PowerShell preferred. Python, ruby, etc. a plus.)
Experience/interest in docker containers (specifically on *nix, Windows containers a plus)
Familiarity with large scale indexing systems (Elasticsearch preferred)
Familiarity with RDB systems (PostgreSQL and MS SQL preferred)
Familiarity with message queuing systems (RabbitMQ preferred)
Familiarity with platform monitoring and reporting systems (Netdata and Grafana preferred)
Familiarity with scaling and load balancing technologies (haproxy, Apache as a reverse proxy, etc.)
Familiarity with lower level infrastructure services (Active Directory, Certificates, SMTP, Routing, etc.)
Familiarity with traditional enterprise IT virtualization technologies (VMWare preferred)
Bonus: Familiarity with container orchestration and scheduling technologies (MesosMarathon and Kubernetes)
Bonus: Familiarity with platform automation technologies (chef, salt, puppet, etc.)
Bonus: Familiarity with other enterprise infrastructure systems (SharePoint, Exchange, etc.)
