Job Description

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Perform microbiological testing on raw materials, finished products, water, environmental samples, and packaging materials.
    • Monitor and interpret microbial limits for food safety based on national (FSSAI) and international standards (ISO, FDA, etc.).
    • Conduct routine environmental monitoring (swab tests, air sampling, etc.) to ensure hygiene and sanitation effectiveness.
    • Identify and investigate microbial contamination and propose corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
    • Maintain and calibrate microbiological laboratory equipment (e.g., autoclaves, incubators, laminar flow hoods).
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records of lab results, observations, and test procedures.
    • Assist in validating cleaning and sanitation procedures through microbiological testing.
    • Prepare and maintain SOPs, lab reports, and documentation required for audits and compliance.
    • Support internal audits and assist in third-party food safety audits (FSSC 22000, BRC, ISO 22000, etc.).
    • Stay updated on microbial food safety trends, regulations, and emerging pathogens.
    Requirements:
    • Bachelors or Masters degree in Microbiology, Food Technology, Biotechnology, or a related field.
    • 3 to 8 years of experience in a food manufacturing or food testing laboratory.
    • Sound knowledge of food microbiology, pathogens, spoilage organisms, and HACCP principles.
    • Familiarity with lab safety protocols, aseptic techniques, and quality control standards.
    • Experience working in an ISO 17025-accredited lab or similar food safety framework preferred.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
    • Good communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience with rapid microbiological testing methods (e.g., PCR, ELISA, ATP testing).
    • Knowledge of GFSI standards (BRC, SQF, FSSC 22000) and regulatory guidelines (FSSAI, Codex, FSMA).
    • Proficiency in using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is a plus.
