Job Description

    Agricultural specialists are responsible for the management of crops, livestock and other resources on farms and ranches. They may also work with farmers and ranchers to help them improve their production methods or develop new techniques.Agricultural specialists commonly specialize in a particular area of agriculturesuch as horticulture, animal husbandry, forestry, etc.and they often focus on one specific type of crop or animal.Agriculture Specialist Job DutiesAgriculture specialists have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
    • Determining which crops are most suitable for different areas based on climate and soil conditions
    • Cultivating and harvesting crops, including weeds and other plants that may be detrimental to the growth of desired plants
    • Providing counseling and advice on topics such as pest control, plant care, soil preparation, and seed selection
    • Conducting research to improve crop production methods and develop new varieties
    • Inspecting livestock to ensure they are healthy and properly cared for
    • Identifying insect infestations and taking steps to eliminate them
    • Creating plans for farming operations based on soil quality and crop requirements
    • Planning and conducting livestock handling procedures such as branding or castration
    • Training farmers in modern agricultural methods and practices, such as using fertilizers or applying pesticides
