Job Description

Head Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation About the Organisation:

We run programmes in the remotest corners of India and urban areas in the areas of Health & Nutrition, Education, Child Protection and Humanitarian Response, in order to provide quality education and healthcare, protection from harm and abuse and life - saving aid during emergencies to children. Globally, Save the Children is present in more than 120 countries and works to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children.
Roles and Responsibility Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation head will be a key constituent to the thematic vertical of Poverty & Inclusion and will work towards amplifying the portfolio s impact on Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation for children, their families and communities at large. He/ she will
  • Support to Director Programme & Policy and Impact towards management of the strategy and the portfolio in SC India
  • Support in development, implementation and management of the Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation strategy with clearly defined objectives, operational approaches, key sectors of engagement, risk analysis and prioritization, milestones and high - impact indicators for success.
  • Undertake regular performance review of the strategic targets in relation to the thematic priorities and resilience Big Idea.
  • Lead, design and support the process and development of proposals, strengthen implementation and integration within SC India thematic & sub - thematic priorities.
  • Provide technical oversight in portfolio development, capacity building, including strengthening inter - linkage with surge teams across thematic and cross - functional units
  • Represent Save the Children at national as well as International platforms; and state authorities, donors, the media and the public; and work closely with national structures and build on and strengthen already established relationships.
  • Develop a competent technical team at NSO, and support Hub / Project teams to enhance their knowledge, capacity and mainstreaming the theme in the on - going and new programme/project.
  • Technically lead the Resilience - Big Idea; conceptualize programme designs, and provide strategic - thematic support to the implementation teams (Hub and Project office levels)
  • Lead, design and support Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation programming in close engagement with the Technical Advisers Child Protection, Education and Health and Nutrition as well as with Cross - Thematic Leads Poverty, Urban and Gender Equality to ensure suitable embedding of the theme.
  • Work closely with the Humanitarian Operation Team to integrate Resilience during the recovery phase of any large scale Emergency/ humanitarian response operations.
  • Work closely with the Head of Research, Policy and Advocacy, Communication and Campaign to build and implement Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation related research, advocacy and campaigns in terms of strengthening knowledge base, strategic planning, advocate and deliver sustained campaign.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to the Hubs/Project Offices to ensure quality implementation of Resilience and Climate Change Adaptation programmes.
  • Represent SC India in Risk, Resilience and Adaptation Global Working Group, and other important Platforms/ Networks/ Alliances of the Government and Civil Society organizations.
Compliance and accountability
  • Assist Director of P & P, Lead Poverty & Inclusion and SMT to ensure procedures and policies are fully implemented and that we are efficient and accountable to both beneficiaries and donors and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Work with the RM and Awards Management Team to ensure donor policies and procedures are understood and followed by all relevant staff and partners; review and sign - off regular interim and final narrative reports of projects received from the Hubs/ Project Offices.
  • Ensure that SC s commitment to improve quality and accountability in CCRA programming across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance to SC BR s policies and practices, including the Child Safeguarding Policy
Measures of Performance:
  • No. of concept notes & proposal developed keeping best alignment to the strategic - thematic priorities.
  • Comments received from donors/ members on quality of proposals/ concept notes and revisions made
  • No. of proposals approved for grants/ funding
  • Technical inputs provided to hub and programme implementation teams as per the quality framework
  • Knowledge products (reports, technical publications, thematic research, best practices, etc.) vetted/developed for the thematic area
  • Strategic plan for Resilence and Climate Change Adaptation and performance review of the strategic targets
Experience
  • Min. 11 years of experience in resilience, climate change adaptation and development programmes, with a minimum of 10 years of work on DRR - Resilience and Climate Change Adaptations. .
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience in a leadership role.
  • Experience of working with an international NGOs and/ or UN agencies and Govt. Systems.
  • Experience working with children and communities.
Qualifications
  • Post Graduate Degree / Diploma in the relevant area / rural/urban development, Disaster Management, Sustainable Development
Skills & Knowledge Technical:
  • Understanding, Compliance and Commitment to Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Agreements, New Urban Agenda and other emerging frameworks
  • Understanding of and commitment to International Standards of Relief work such as SPHERE Minimum Standards, Red Cross Code of Conduct.
  • Previous experience of working with international donors and ECHO grants in particular
  • Proven ability to manage people, resources and finances.
  • Ability to support, supervise, motivate and manage a large team including skills and experience in effective delegation, coaching and development of staff.
  • Good interpersonal skills: the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels, taking into account cultural and language difficulties.
  • Analytical and conceptual skills to think and plan strategically.
  • Skills and experience in project programming, monitoring, review and evaluation.
  • Ability to produce analytical and well - presented project proposals and reports in English
