Job Description

Principal Software EngineerThe Red Hat OpenStack Networking team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us remotely. You will work in a globally distributed team focused on Red Hat OpenStack Networking projects, Neutron, and TripleO in particular. Youll write and review code while working with upstream community members and fellow Red Hat s associates. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business. Primary job responsibilities

  • Become a contributing member of the open source community
  • Write and review code; implement new features
  • Participate in upstream and continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD)
  • Work closely with technical support to resolve customer issues
  • Inspire and guide technical direction and content within the community and Red Hat
  • Attend conferences and events to present teams contributions and collaborate with other upstream developers in design and implementation aspects
  • Improve our testing infrastructure
  • Participate in RPM packaging
Required skills
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience with Python; C and Go are a plus
  • Experience working with Linux
  • In-depth knowledge of network fundamentals like bridging, switching, and routing
  • Cloud networking experience with VXLAN or Geneve tunneling, network namespaces, Open vSwitch (OVS), etc.
  • Virtualization technology, cloud, and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)
  • Sharp troubleshooting skills
  • Comfortable communicating and collaborating with upstream community members both inside and outside of the team and company
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent is a plus
Familiarity with any of the following is a plus:
  • Red Hat OpenStack Platform development
  • OVS or Open Virtual Network (OVN) development
  • Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Puppet, TripleO, or Heat
