Job Description

    Job DescriptionResponsibilities: -The infrastructure manager will lead a team of system administrators and maintenance personnel andbe responsible for operations, maintenance and planning of all activities of the Department of CSEs IT infrastructure (network, computer, storage, AV systems, IT services etc.). This involves 1) Maintaining safety and security of the existing computing and network infrastructure. 2) Ensuring smooth day to day operations of computing, A/V facilities and other related equipment in labs, conference rooms, classrooms and offices. 3) Planning and provisioning for the future growth of the department, and of all related budgeting and procurement for the same. 4) Be the bridge between Department to and the institute Computer Center, to ensure smooth operations and timely resolution of complaints that require CC intervention. 5) Coordinate and lead the hiring and selection process of personnel of the team --- student research assistants, staff, interns etc. 6) Manage the schedules and duties of people on the team so that their capabilities are effectively utilized. The person should have good communication skills, be able to empathize and work with a dynamic, young team of staff and student research assistants. Computing is a fast changing, very technical domain. In addition to the interpersonal skills mentioned above, the candidate should possess the technical skills for tasks and responsibilities outlined below. Responsibilities include but are not limited to Install, configure, and troubleshoot Linux-based systems.
    • Install, configure, and maintain various internet services, including LDAP, DNS, Email, Apache, etc.
    • Manage the teaching labs, which are used for conducting course labs, events, and workshops.
    • This includes booking the labs and ensuring that required software is installed using Ansible before each event.
    • Oversee the CSE Departments network and configure VLANs for individual rooms.
    • Address and resolve network issues (both wired and wireless) in CSE buildings.
    • Create IITB and CSE LDAP accounts and activate email access for new users.
    • Proactively monitor the health of systems and servers.
    • Participate in planning and executing server, network, and desktop computing purchases and upgrades.
    • Provide technical support for systems and servers, addressing user complaints effectively.
    • Develop and maintain shell scripts to automate routine tasks.
    • Maintain system security by addressing vulnerabilities through fixes, patches, upgrades, and SSL certificate installations.
    • Manage backup and recovery processes.
    • Document the procedures for installation and configuration of all CSE services.
    Essential Qualification & ExperienceB.Tech. or B.E. or M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering or Information Technology in appropriate discipline with minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade point average with relevant experience of six years, out of which three years should be at Paylevel 7 (44hidden_mobile) or one year should be at Paylevel 8 (47hidden_mobile) or equivalent. Essential Skills and Experience: Experience in managing the computing and network infrastructure for an organization of size more than 500 users, multiple labs with more than 300 desktops, data centres with more than 20 servers, a LAN spread over multiple buildings. Experience in managing a small team of 8-10 assistants. Specifically strong knowledge, command over and experience in - 1) Desktop and Server Unix/Linux system administration. Installation and maintenance of various IT services such as LDAP, DNS, Email, Apache, NFS, Proxy. 2) Technical skills in open-source technologies. 3) Virtualization Environments, KVM, Proxmox, VM Management (creating, migration, HA mode, Cloning, Snapshot). 4) Bash shell scripting and automation tools, monitoring tools like Nagios, Zabbix, MRTG. 5) Configuration Management Software like Ansible. 6) Logistics and management aspects of an IT infrastructure Maintenance: troubleshooting, Attending user complaints. Proactive monitoring of the health of the server/network. 7) Planning and participating in the upgrading of a department desktop and server computing, network and Internet services infrastructure. 8) Central Government procurement processes- writing technical tender documents, floating techno-commercial tenders, formulating bid evaluation procedures Desirable qualifications: Linux System Certification from Redhat or Oracle or AWS.Age limit: 40 years with applicable age relaxations.
