Role Overview:As an Engineering Manager at Morningstar, you will be instrumental in leading a team dedicated to the successful migration of datasets to a newly architected pipeline. Your role will involve close collaboration with the Lead Software Development Engineer to ensure the teams autonomy and alignment with business objectives. You will have both strategic and hands-on responsibilities, contributing to the codebase using Java and React.js while nurturing a high-performance engineering culture.Key Responsibilities:- Enable and empower stream-aligned teams under Lead Software Development Engineers (LSDEs), ensuring autonomy and alignment with business domains.- Act as a technical enabler by removing impediments, facilitating team flow, and promoting continuous delivery and improvement.- Contribute hands-on to development efforts, particularly in Java, React.js, and AI-augmented coding using tools like GitHub Copilot.- Lead and coordinate application enhancement and tech ops activities with technology and business teams.- Participate in architecture discussions, system design, task breakdown, estimation, code reviews, QA, and release planning.- Apply microservices architecture principles to guide scalable and maintainable system design.- Coordinate with stakeholders to create and manage project schedules and mitigate risks.- Communicate project status updates to stakeholders, peers, and product managers.- Collaborate across teams to identify and manage dependencies and enhance operational efficiency.Qualifications Required:- Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.- Minimum 12 years of experience in software development and engineering leadership.- Proficiency in Java, J2EE, React.js, and microservices architecture.- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and AI-augmented development tools.- Strong database knowledge (e.g., MS SQL, Oracle, MySQL).- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, code quality, and engineering best practices.- Demonstrated ability to hire, mentor, and lead technical teams.- Experience managing large-scale projects with aggressive timelines.- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.Company Details:Morningstar is an equal opportunity employer with a hybrid work environment that encourages collaboration and flexibility among global colleagues.Note: The working conditions for this position involve a standard office setting with the potential for limited corporate travel to remote offices or business meetings.
